It's not that I want Grant Ward to be redeemed on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but I'm worried about his future as the leader of Hydra. This can only end a few ways — either the organization goes down, or the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent gets replaced by another "head" who is even more sinister. Will Werner Von Strucker defeat Grant Ward on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ? While Melinda May recently joined Lance Hunter's revenge quest against him, I wonder if Ward's newest Hydra protégé will be the one to take him down.
Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker's son Werner is a Marvel comics character who lives in his father's shadow and does ultimately take over Hydra at one point. Spencer Treak Clark will return in the fourth episode of the season, "Devils You Know." The character was last seen enrolling in Andrew Garner's Psych 101 class on a mission to earn his place in Ward's new rebuilt Hydra. We don't quite know what Ward's endgame is here. Could approaching Garner be a way to get to Daisy and other powered people? He has the tendency to go full Professor Snape on his former coworker, and that's a weakness that can be exploited by a Draco Malfoy-type like Werner Von Strucker.
"A powerful family name doesn't mean you deserve respect," Ward told him in last Tuesday's episode. Their relationship is already all about family, which worries me. We know how Ward feels about his own family, and I don't trust the Strucker brat. He manipulated and took down his interrogator easily. He already threatened to kill Ward, and Ward practically dared him to do it. It doesn't help that he looks and dresses like a young James Spader, a.k.a. Ultron himself. Like I said, I don't even like Ward. I've basically given up on that dog-killer. Still, I just know that this relationship is going to end badly.
Plus, from a dramatic standpoint, it would almost be too easy for May and Hunter to be successful in their attempt to kill Ward. They're going to hit some hurdles. Plus, according to the official ABC press release for an upcoming episode, "May feels that Hunter’s mission to take down Ward is getting too personal." I'm just saying, I wouldn't be surprised if this smarmy youth came out of left field and deprived our heroes of their victorious moment while setting him up as a dangerous new threat. Grant Ward has his flaws, but he does understand loyalty and that's something that Hydra can and will take advantage of on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This is clearly leading to a showdown, so let's all remember to keep our eyes peeled for Werner when it happens.
