Carey Mulligan Rocks The Perfect Fall LBD

There's nothing more classic or foolproof than a Little Black Dress. Carey Mulligan's chic LBD for the Suffragette premiere in New York City is certainly proof of that. Clad in a strapless, midi-length satin and tulle dress, Mulligan looked stunning and gorgeous as always.

The actress' red carpet appearances never disappoint. Mulligan consistently dresses in gorgeous gowns, girly prints, and feminine silhouettes. So you can imagine that the press tour for her latest film, Suffragette, set to release Oct. 23, is no different. After all, Mulligan plays a lead character in the film, alongside Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter, as one of the first women in Britain to begin the women's suffrage movement in the late 19th and early 20th century. After playing such a strong, driven character, it only makes sense that Mulligan picked bold designs to rock for her promotional appearances — including this gorgeous Alexander McQueen dress from the designer's 2016 resort collection.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. It's the middle of October in New York City, and resort clothes are for tropical vacations. But even so, the dress is pitch black and absolutely gorgeous with sheer fabric on the skirt, a satin bodice featuring a big bow, and a silhouette that fits Mulligan perfectly.

So who cares if it was designed for resort? It's lovely, and Mulligan couldn't look any prettier in it. She wore the dress with a pair of lace up heels very reminiscent of ballet shoes, yet with a heel. She wore no other accessories, except for a classic, deep red lipstick. If you ever had any doubts about a LBD and a red lip, let this be the answer!

Ultimately, this LBD is the perfect autumnal formal dress inspiration. The classic shape and the deep color, as well as Mulligan's flawless styling, add to the drama of the whole look. Show-stoppingly gorgeous, this ensemble is easily one of my favorite I've seen the actress wear. Considering her amazing red carpet style, that's saying a lot!
