So This Is Why Jay Garrick Is On 'The Flash'

by Leah Marilla Thomas

We may have only seen a bit of Jay Garrick on The Flash, but some surprise footage at NYCC shed some light into where he came from and why he's trying to save Barry Allen. Why is Jay Garrick on The Flash ? The surprise "sizzle reel" of Season 2 footage that debuted before the Warner Brothers Television Takeover panel at NYCC. Be warned! You can watch the video and know everything that I know, but there are some spoilers for the CW series below.

So... here's what happened in the reel. The singularity at the end of The Flash Season 1 finale created a portal by which both other speedsters and other meta-humans into Central City. In Garrick's time, he is known as "The Flash" instead of Barry Allen. You'll get to see a little bit of that world in the reel and upcoming episodes of The Flash, and it'll be interesting to see what else is different in his universe. So, we're officially making the leap from time travel to parallel universes on The Flash. The show has already touched on the possibility once Barry started messing around with his own timeline, so it was only a matter of time, let's be real.

Who else will be traveling over in the singularity portal? This narrative device also explains the origin of the Big Bad this season known as Zoom, who according to the new footage aims to be the only speedster in every universe. In the footage, he tells Barry that he has no desire to be a hero because "heroes die." We also can't see his face, and I think that must be intentional. This also means that, since we got a glimpse of Killer Frost in the finale as well, that she could easily cross through the portal and visit her alternate ego, Caitlin Snow.

Check out the reel below. You'll also get a look at Hawkgirl before she takes flight in DC's Legends of Tomorrow, as well as your new favorite Starbucks order (PSL be damned): the Flash latte.
