Will We Get New Emojis Soon?

Rejoice, for the texting gods have finally heard our prayers! No, they haven't added a mind-reading option (yet) for when you're too lazy to move your thumbs, but it's pretty darn close. The Unicode Consortium released a list of 67 potential new emojis they're considering for addition next year, and just one look is enough to get our texting thumbs itching. No longer will we be forced to put our indescribable adoration of bacon into plain words; this time next year, we may have the option of simply texting a bacon emoji to express our love.

Well, it's a possibility, at least. The Unicode Consortium recently announced a list of candidates for next year's emojis, which are updated annually. According to BuzzFeed News, the consortium will meet to discuss new emojis next May, and the update should roll out in June 2016. With almost 70 characters to choose from, the creators have their work cut out for them. How could anyone choose between a face palm and a shrug, or a cucumber and an avocado? Actually, the latter is a pretty easy choice — I think we can all agree there are quite enough phallic emojis at the moment, although there's still a tragic lack of vagina-shaped objects to choose from.

That being said, today is still a day for celebration. Let's take a look at 13 of the best contenders, as selected by yours truly. Remember, though, that this list is far from extensive — to check out the rest of the emoji candidates, head over to the Unicode website.

1. Selfie

This is not a drill. A selfie emoji could be in our future! What a wonderful world we live in.

2. Avocado

Avocados have been undergoing a Moment-with-a-capital-M over the past few years, and it's about time they make their way onto the emoji keyboard.

3. Black Heart

Finally, you have a way to express your dark, shriveled soul.

4. BACON (!!!!!)

YAAAAAAAAAAS.

5. Face Palm

I've been waiting my whole life for this emoji.

6. Nauseated Face

For all the times you receive an unsolicited dick pic.

7. Prince

Sadly, it's an actual prince emoji rather than a tiny version of the musician, but it's still cool.

8. Shrug

I already have the shrug emoticon saved on my phone, ready to deploy at a moment's notice, but I must admit that a shrug emoji would be much easier.

9. "Call Me" Hand

Forget pesky pickup lines. Just text your crush the "call me" hand, and they're yours.

10. Man Dancing

At last, the lady dancer emoji has a partner!

11. Fox Face

What? It's cute and perfect for when you're feeling foxy. The gorilla is also a pretty cool option.

12. Scooter

It's an emoji throwback to your days as a '90s kid, roaming the streets on your trusty scooter.

13. Cowboy Hat
