Try These Ariana Grande Songs At Karaoke

by Kristie Rohwedder

Fun fact: I play it very safe at karaoke night. More often than not, I chicken out of singing altogether. When I do “sing” (another fun fact: my voice stinks), I don't pick soaring pop ballads or beloved Broadway show tunes. My nerves won't allow it. Instead, I jot manageable tracks like [song title redacted because I don’t want be snarky] down on the karaoke request slip. I stay in my vocal lane. (OK, there was that one time when I thought it’d be a good idea to try to sing “Tom Sawyer” by Rush. What hubris! I had no business attempting to scale the sonic skyscraper built by Geddy Lee. I almost had a panic attack halfway through the first verse/when I realized what I’d gotten myself into. That moment will haunt me for the rest of my life.) If I ever do feel brave at 'aoke night again, I know what I will sing. I will attempt a song by my girl Ariana Grande.

Now, I know what you're thinking: Uh, you do know Ariana Grande's voice is as big as her ponytail, right? You also know that the vocal runs peppered throughout her song catalog are gnarly, right? Are you sure you can handle putting your vocal cords on that roller-coaster? Aren't you worried it's going to be "Tom Sawyer" all over again? Maybe you should start with something a little more manageable, you nincompoop.

Nah. If I do ever go for it, I'm going to go for it. If that means I go down in a blaze of melismas, so be it.

Here are some bonkers-amazing Ariana Grande songs that have the potential to absolutely slay at karaoke night:

“Break Free”

This song is a marathon, not a sprint; The final bridge is the make-or-break free moment, so be sure to conserve your energy accordingly.

“Better Left Unsaid”

Charge your vocal cords’ batteries before you start this dynamic, uptempo tune. You’re going to be doing a lot of belting.

“Baby I”

Melismas? Riffs? Runs? Whistle notes? This throwback jam has it all!

“The Way”

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good whistle note. Oh, it doesn't hurt that this song is a banger from start to finish.

“One Last Time”

That explosive chorus is EVERYTHING.

“Almost Is Never Enough”

Who doesn't love a beautiful duet at karaoke night? A goblin, THAT'S who.

“Tattooed Heart”

My goodness, does Ari wail on this one. *Fans self.* Make sure your breath is ready and able to support you.

“Why Try”

Man, do I love to scream-sing this song in my car. Knocks the wind out of me every time. Needless to say, it's never not a magnificent performance. Will I ever share my gorgeous, earsplitting rendition of "Why Try" with my local karaoke bar?

The world should be so lucky.
