How To Rock Rihanna's Cupcake Dress For Halloween

by Shea Simmons

The Grammy Awards this year were full of incredible fashion moments like Taylor Swift's gorgeous two-toned, high-low gown and Gwen Stefani's stunning, structural pant suit. While these ladies definitely made an impact on the carpet they couldn't hold a candle to Rihanna. That's why Rihanna's Grammy cupcake dress as a Halloween costume is the perfect choice for the fashionista with a crafty side. This costume can be created two ways. One is super crafty and cool, and the other is going to send you online shopping. The moral of the story though is that if you're looking to be RiRi for Halloween, but not into purchasing a Giambattista Valli gown like the "Bitch Better Have My Money" singer, there are ways to accomplish your goals.

Every fashion girl loves a good costume that gives a nod to the most fashionable moments of the year while still being fun for Halloween. That's basically the definition of Rihanna's 2015 Grammy dress. With the plethora of memes and "Things Rihanna's Grammy Dress Looks Like" posts, the decision to rock a similar look for Halloween means that you'll be embracing the humor inherent in rocking such an iconic dress while also sporting a homemade version of a Valli gown. Best of all worlds, right?

Method #1

This method is going to be a bit more crafty, and in order to achieve the voluminous skirt on her gown, follow this tutorial on how to create a no sew tutu. Don't worry, you can adjust the length. Just prep yourself for buy more tulle.

So, what will you need to create the look?

Loads & Loads Of Pink Tulle

Tulle, $17, Wal-Mart

Tulle is integral to the look, and the silver in this one gives the textured look of Rhianna's gown.

Elastic Band

Elastic Band, $2, Hobby Lobby

You'll need to create a waist band for your crazy skirt.

Pink Leggings

Women's Leggings- Coollast, $10, Target

Truth is, your skirt is still probably going to be a bit sheer even after you finish it, so I'd recommend a pair a pink leggings to go underneath.

Tube Top

Add a tube top to this ensemble, and you've got Rihanna's Grammy dress!

Method #2

Version two is for the less crafty girl, but don't worry — it will definitely still get you the same result! So what will you need for this version of the costume?

Floor Length Tulle Skirt

Dress, $100, MaidenLaneBoutique, Etsy

This tulle skirt is perfect as the base layer to the gown, and the best part is that you can probably rock it again.

Mid Thigh Length Tulle Skirt

Tulle Shirt, $55, Morningstardesignsmi, Etsy

This skirt will serve as the top layer of the gown's skirt. Basically, you'll just be rocking two skirts at once to achieve the layered, voluminous Rhianna look.
