How To Dress Like Cher Horowitz For Halloween
Besides having some of the funniest, most memorable one-liners, Clueless is a cult-classic that defined our childhoods (and adulthoods, tbh) because of the iconic fashion trends that are still prevalent today (though, will plaid ever really disappear?). If you don't think matching plaid skirt suits are acceptable on the daily, Oct. 31 is the time to put together your best Cher Horowitz Halloween costume. Don't forget to add the gum for the valley aesthetic!
2014 and 2015 were big years for '90s fashion resurgence. Coachella basically looked like everybody took a time machine back to 1992 with flannels tied around everybody's waists, crop tops left and right, and teeny, tiny spaghetti straps literally everywhere. Just this Sunday during the Emmys, Maisie Williams sported furry single strap heels that were totally reminiscent of not just Cher Horowitz, but Baby Spice as well. Chokers are back and being sold at Urban Outfitters stores, and lipliner — yes — lipliner has made an appearance on the fashion week runways.
Oh, and it won't hurt that on Halloween while you're in costume, you'll still look pretty damn trendy dressed as Cher Horowitz. However, if I'm being honest, when I'm getting dressed, I always think, "WWCHD?" I don't have her amazing virtual closet, but a girl can dream, right?
Below, find the items you need to look like Cher this Halloween, or like, everyday.
1. The Calvin Klein Slip
Mel: What the hell is that? Cher: A dress. Mel: Says who? Cher: Calvin Klein.
Free People Slip Dress, $28, 1.macys.com
Of course, you're going to need a sheer jacket like the one she threw on and some arm candy like Christian.
2. A Big, Ridiculous Cellphone
Is it crazy that I want a big flip phone like hers? There's got to be something so satisfying about hanging up on someone with a loud snap. Plus, pulling that antenna up with attitude must have been so much fun.
New Classic Old Vintage Brick Cell Phone, $44.01, ebay.com
Can you get more Cher Horowitz than this phone? As if!
3. The Plaid Ensemble
Who doesn't remember this outfit? With that cute white backpack? Amazing. Plus, if you have a friend to throw on Dionne's outfit, you'll be the cutest pair on the spooky holiday. Remember — Dionne's hat is a planter!
TopPie Pleated Plaid Mini Skirt, $18.99, cdn.opentip.com
If you've got a white Jeep, major bonus points for you. Oh, and don't forget the knee high white socks!
4. The Tank-Top-Over-Shirt
Once again, '90s trends taking over. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this look all over New York City, especially with the rise of athleisure. The best part of this costume? You probably already have all the pieces to put it together.
Lane Bryant Scoop Neck Tank, $19.95, lanebryant.com
Throw on a bandana on your head like Dionne and incorporate yet another huge trend from this season!
5. A Furry Pen
If you've got a pen like this one, wouldn't you be more productive? Probably not, but how cute is it? It's the ultimate Cher accessory.
Limited Edition Japanese Hello Kitty Hot Pink Furry Black Ball Pen, $3.99, etsy.com
Just look at how soft this is. I want it even just for everyday life. Think I would be taken seriously at a meeting with this pen?
6. The Sheer Shirt
Cher was all about the sheer, like this black button-up layered over a white tank top.
ASOS Vero Moda Sheer V Neck Long Sleeve Shirt, $40, us.asos.com
If you want to complete the look, add an oversized cross and white tank underneath!
7. Knee High Socks
A little school girl, a little chic, the knee-high sock trend is still all the rage. And with Halloween at the end of October, it's usually freezing by that time, even if you've got a few drinks in you.
Crochet Double Cuff Over-The-Knee Sock, $16, urbanoutfitters.com
Pair with Cher's many Mary Janes, and you've got a cute, chic costume that you can take in real life, too!
