How To Dress Up Like A Mean Girl For Halloween

by Danelle A. Sandoval

When October rolls around, I can always count on my friends to suggest the idea of a Mean Girls Halloween group costume. Yes, it's been more than a decade since the movie came out, but I still want to be just like Cady Heron, because all of us can still relate to her in one way or another. Heron was not just a stylish math whiz, she was a foreigner trying to assimilate with the elitist squad of her environment, but instead overcomes all obstacles through personal triumph and self-discovery. And you just thought it was a comedy about wearing pink! Little did you realize Mean Girls has changed the world.

All this waxing poetic aside, I'm just trying to prove that dressing up like a Mean Girl for Halloween is totally validated, even if it is like dressing up like Queen Bee Regina, big-haired Gretchen, or sweet, sweet Karen.

But how, you ask? And which costume do you choose from? I know, I know, there are just too many options, whether it's their actual Halloween costumes in the movie or their pink-themed school outfits. they're all just pretty spectacular. Personally, I'd reach for the costume that has the most pink, because I'll admit, I hardly ever wear anything other than black every other day and Halloween a day to be festive and wear something you wouldn't ordinarily wear, right?

For those of you who are in search of the perfect Mean Girls Halloween costumes, here are some ideas to guide you.

But first, let's note on exhibit A:

Yes, the key to dressing up like Mean Girls is to wear pink, pink, and more pink.

Regina George

Like any other Queen Bee, Regina always had the prettiest of wardrobe pieces. To dress up like Regina, find a pink mini skirt, and a pink cardigan. Pretty easy, amirite?

Mariagrazia Panizzi, $112, Yoox

Pink Pleated Mini Skirt, $14, Choices

Cady Heron

Pulling off Cady Heron is pretty simple, but you need to have a red wig. That is, unless you have red hair naturally.

Hot Honey Red Wig, $27, Party City

Vero Moda Flare Jean, $81, asos

Gretchen Wieners

For Gretchen's attire, snag a pink sweater and a plaid skirt. And hey, if you want to go ahead and carry a box of toaster strudels while you're at it, please do.

White + Warren Thermal Sweater, $96, Revolve

Carven Plaid A-Line Mini Skirt, $420, Moda Operandi

Karen Smith

OK, I've got to admit, I had a slight obsession with Karen's pink mini skirt. Make sure to buy this piece along with any long sleeve pink shirt. Trust me, even Karen would approve.

Long Sleeve Scoop Neck Knit Sweater Shirt, $9, LE3NO

Heart Breaker Mini Skirt, $10, Tobi

Just remember, pink, pink, and more pink!
