7 Emmy-Inspired Hairstyles For Your Next Night Out

by Kali Borovic

Red carpet hairstyles more interesting (and less staunchly formal) than ever, which makes Emmy-inspired hairstyles perfect for a normal woman's night out. Whether you're just grabbing drinks with some friends or going to a wedding or gala event, you can get tons of ideas from the hair looks at last year's ceremony. They are surprisingly perfect for a variety of occasions. With step-by-step tutorials available online to help achieve each look, it doesn't get any simpler, even if you're a hairstyling novice.

Last year's Emmys red carpet was all about effortless hair, which just happens to be super easy to recreate at home. From high ballerina buns to tousled down 'dos, there was something for every personal style and length of hair. The disheveled hair look is still in for fall, so there's no better time than the present to bust out these red carpet-inspired looks.

It seemed like each star's hair look had so much personality on the 2014 red carpet. Many of them were minimalist, making them timeless and easy to recreate at home. By adding a twist or a braid, it's easy to add your own personal style to each of these looks, but there's nothing wrong with wearing them just how the stars did either. These seven tutorials are perfect for getting started with your night-out hairstyle. The hardest part will be choosing a look!

A braid is a quick way to spice up any hairstyle. This one wraps around the entire head and is easier to create than it looks.

It's that easy!

2. Kerry Washington's Blowout

This 'do was super simple, but looked gorgeous on the red carpet. The power of a good blowout is real, and doing your own at home isn't as complicated as you might think.

All you need is a blowdryer and round brush and you're good to go.

3. Claire Danes's Messy Low Bun

What's awesome about this look is how dimensional it is. It's subtle in the front, surprisingly complex in the back.

For a more polished look, just give yourself a side part and comb the hair over before you start.

4. Sarah Hyland's Top Knot

The ballerina bun has come a long way, morphing to include the messier top knot like the one Hyland wore at last year's Emmys.

Make it as messy or as polished as you'd like.

5. Padma Lakshmi Half-Up Hair

It doesn't get simpler than this half-up 'do, but the key is to mastering the bobby pin. You can easily add a braid or twist to the back, but if you're looking for a trendy on-the-go look, this is the one for you.

Who knew that one bobby pin is all it would take?

6. Hayden Panettiere's Messy Updo

This is a more formal chignon, but it's highly customizable depending on how sleek you want to go.

Pin your locks back and add a headband like Panettiere.

7. Natalie Dormer's Big Curls

Big curls are an easy way to give a simple look some personality on or of the red carpet. It just happens to be one of the easiest looks to create as well.

Big hair made simple!

I told you it would be hard to choose!
