There's no doubt that all kinds of hookups happened on Friends. From Rachel and Ross to Monica and Chandler to Joey and his million dates to Phoebe and Mike, these six friend sure had a lot of sex. With that said, did you ever wonder if Phoebe and Joey would get together? Well, if the actors portraying the beloved characters got their way, these two BFFs so would have had sex — and a lot of it. Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc wanted Phoebe and Joey to hook up, they revealed while chatting with People. LeBlanc dished,
Towards the end we actually pitched the idea that Joey and Phoebe had been having casual sex the entire time. We'd go back and shoot all the historical scenes and just before a moment that everyone recognizes, there's Joey and Phoebe coming out of a broom closet together. But they were like, "Nah."
Anyone else glad this didn't happen? Don't get me wrong, I love Joey and Phoebe's relationship, but I always liked the fact that they never hooked up and just had an amazing friendship. Yes, they kissed and had sexual chemistry at times, but it never went further than that. They always had a strong bond and shared a unique connection with each other. You know what they say, "sex changes everything," so if they did have casual sex throughout the season or just hooked up once it might've changed that special friendship Phoebe and Joey formed. Frankly, I wouldn't have liked that one bit.
It was enough that two couples (Chandler and Monica and Ross and Rachel) formed out of the six friends, but if Phoebe and Joey would've gotten together, well, that would have made things a bit redundant and stale. Granted, LeBlanc made it seem like he and Kudrow just wanted their characters to hook up and nothing more serious, but whatever the case I'm glad it didn't happen.
Let's just bask in the gloriousness that is Phoebe and Joey's friendship.
