Grace Jones Thinks These Stars Copied Her Style

by Shea Simmons

Grace Jones is without a doubt one of the most unique and creative forces in the entertainment industry. Whether she's rocking edgy fashion or making a bold statement, the star is always brilliant in one way or another. Now, Grace Jones says her style was copied by the likes of Madonna, Rihanna, and Bey herself. The statement came in Jones's new autobiography I'll Never Write My Memoirs which is sure to be one heck of a ride considering this little tidbit is only from a sneak peek! While stars being influenced by legends is common, there is definitely a difference between being inspired and passing a style off as your own. Jones seems to think that these stars aren't influenced but are straight-up copying her looks. Oh snap!

In the past, many have looked to models and actresses of the past for their style inspiration. Whether it's Arianna Grande channeling Christina Aguilera or Kim Kardashian West rocking a retro Audrey Hepburn look for an ad, stars are influenced by one another every day. However, there is definitely validity to the fact that there's a disconnect between being influenced and copying someone's own unique style — especially when that style is as iconic as Grace Jones'.

In her autobiography excerpt that was published by Time Out, the star says, "Trends come along and people say, ‘Follow that trend.’ There’s a lot of that around at the moment: ‘Be like Sasha Fierce. Be like Miley Cyrus. Be like Rihanna. Be like Lady Gaga. Be like Rita Ora and Sia. Be like Madonna.’ I cannot be like them — except to the extent that they are already being like me." Did you not love the subtle shade at the end of the excerpt? I mean, talk about a way to start slow and build up.

Still, I do think the star is being sincere and not at all trying to insult the other stars. In their defense, who wouldn't want to cop Jones' style? She's an innovator and a visionary when it comes to fashion. To prove how much of a fashion legend she is, let's take a look back at some of her best covers.

Basically, Jones' style knows no bounds, and after all, imitation is the highest form of flattery, right?
