This Old Movie Could Connect To 'PLL'
If there's one thing that I adore about Pretty Little Liars fans, it's their sleuthing abilities. Seriously: some dedicated fans are even better at uncovering clues than Spencer Hastings herself. It was these loyal fans who uncovered major clues like Varjak's phone number spelling out Sara Harvey and Mona's anagram rearranging to Charles DiLaurentis. Pretty Little Liars gave us those clues within the context of an episode, but the latest crazy clue uncovered by fans is actually from a yet-to-be-aired episode title. Could the Season 6 finale "Hush, Hush, Sweet Liars" reference some major events in Rosewood? What these two Pretty Little Liars super fans uncovered will absolutely blow your mind.
Pretty Little Liars is notorious for referencing old movies, and it seems they are pulling that trick once again with the Season 6 finale. Facebook fan page, Once A Liar Always A Liar, discovered that the title of the finale "Hush, Hush, Sweet Liars" is eerily similar to the 1964 Bette Davis thriller Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte — already odd considering Big A's real name is Charlotte DiLaurentis, aka Cece Drake. Instagram user Bethany_Is_A (who, according to her bio, refuses to change her Instagram name despite knowing the whole Big A story) took it one step further by exploring what exactly the film is about. The final scene of the film, which Bethany_Is_A posted on Instagram after pulling it from the Wikipedia page, definitely sounds like something out of Pretty Little Liars.
The summary for this film is full of things that will sound familiar to Pretty Little Liars fans, and there's no way that the writers picked this title at random. I mean, come on: Hollis? Charlotte? Murder? We know those things way too well from loyally watching six seasons of PLL. We also know that the writers love dropping clues for fans whenever possible, which means that it's likely they wanted us to pick up on what Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte means for the show.
If the show does follow the general plot line of Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte, then Cece could face some serious trouble in Season 6B. The film's Charlotte is wrongfully accused of murdering her lover, and is later driven mad by con artists who want to steal her money. Could Season 6B of Pretty Little Liars show Cece facing a similar circumstance? It certainly wouldn't be hard for people to blame the person behind the black hoodie of being a murderer, even if Cece prefers kidnapping to killing. Like the titular character in Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte, Cece might become the show's greatest tragedy.
Major props to Once A Liar, Always A Liar and Bethany_Is_A for pointing out this crazy cool reference. I can't wait to see what else these two uncover.
