7 Reasons His "Size" Doesn't Matter

by Lea Rose Emery

Nothing can get a guy's back up as much as worrying about his penis size. It's a huge source of insecurity. I've had guys straight up ask me if their penis is bigger than their friend's, which is insanely awkward and also a bit ridiculous. I mean, I have a pretty incestuous friendship group but I would never ask if I had better boobs or a better vagina than one of my female friends, so why is sex with a small penis such a big deal?

I do always feel bad for guys, because boobs are out there— even if you're insecure, you pretty much know the person you're having sex with has signed up for your boobs by the time they're having sex with you. But a penis is hidden. There's a big reveal, which must be so nerve-wracking for guys who are concerned about their penis size. Which is pretty much every guy. In fact, I've found that guys are genuinely surprised when I compliment their penis, as they tend to under-estimate its size out of worry.

But let's put it all out in the open, because there are a lot of small penises out there, and a lot of men and women who are still enjoying the crap out of them. Real talk: none of us look like porn stars, and that's totally fine.

Here are seven things you should know about small penises:

1. The Average Penis Isn't As Big As You Think

Don't listen to porn. A survey of more than 15,000 penises from around the world has finally given us our answer "13.12 centimeters (5.16 inches) in length when erect". That's average, which means that about half the world is smaller than 5.16 inches when erect.

2. Really Small Penises Are Called Micropenises, But...

According to Women's Health we don't know exactly what is considered a micropenis, but it's usually stretched when flaccid to take the measurement, and "medical experts in recent articles have said everything from 1.2 inches to 2.8 inches and anywhere under 3 inches. Apparently, there's not a clear consensus in the penis-size community."

3. Plus, They're Really Uncommon

If you're guy is concerned his penis is abnormally small, changes are it's still not micro-penis small. In fact, according to some estimates only "0.6 percent of the world's male population has a genuine micro peen".

4. You Can Still Have Great Sex With A Small Penis

Yes, obviously most people aren't picturing a tiny penis when they think of their ideal man. But you know what, the sex can still be great. I dated a guy with a very small penis for like a year and a half and still enjoyed the sex, so if you're just dealing with a small penis... you'll be totally fine. Some women even enjoy the ease of it in certain positions.

One woman told Buzzfeed that her experience with a micropenis was very positive: "He was a generous and giving lover who cared about my pleasure, cared that I came more often tan him (!), and knew how to get me there, and really, what more could a girl want? So my advice to ladies is: Embrace the micropenis. Giving head was never so easy and at least this guy knew that a woman’s pleasure isn’t all about the peen."

5. It's Not All About Length

We tend to think of penis size in terms of length, but that may be the wrong way to go about it. A lot of women say that it's actually girth that makes the difference in the bedroom. So if you're a little on the short side, there's nothing to worry about it.

6. Guys Catch On Really Early

If you have a micropenis, it may be noticed or diagnosed as a toddler by a parent or doctor. But most men will clock onto their penis size compared to others very young. One man with a micropenis tells Salon that he "observed very clearly at age six, while changing clothes in the locker room of a large municipal pool in connection with my first swimming lessons, that my penis was significantly smaller than those of the other boys my age." It sounds similar to what a lot of girls go through with boobs in the changing room, but even before puberty.

7. Sex Positions Can Make All The Difference

Like I said, the sex can still be amazing, but you should probably think about it a little bit. Focusing on positions where it's tighter, normally by putting your legs together, will make a big difference. For example, try a type of doggy style. For small guys "the best variation for guys who are a little smaller is to have the woman hold her legs together and have the man spread his legs further apart, resting outside of hers. This creates an even tighter fit."
