It's time to kiss summer goodbye, because Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes are back in stores. Never you mind that the first official day of autumn isn't until Sept. 23 — once the PSL makes its triumphant return, you can bet that the start of fall is right behind it. So pull out those sweaters, dust off your ankle boots, and try to forget the fact that it's still 90 degrees outside. Fall is here, my friends, and it is glorious.
As of Sept. 8, the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte will be available at all participating Starbucks stores, although true fans of the seasonal beverage were able to get their hands on this autumn wonderdrink a few days ahead of time by visiting Starbucks' PSL Fan Pass website, and entering a secret password that was tweeted out earlier by the official pumpkin spice latte Twitter account. Lucky PSL enthusiasts who were able to do so successfully were rewarded with a special pass to show baristas that would allow them early access to their beloved pumpkin-y drink over Labor Day weekend.
For those of us who were either too lazy to join the scramble for a PSL fan pass, or (in my case) just not Twitter-savvy enough to do so, the PSL's official return nationwide is like one, huge breath of pumpkin-scented air. We are back in our comfort place, and our comfort place smells of nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon.
This year's pumpkin spice latte brings with it an additional surprise — Starbucks has switched up its pumpkin spice latte recipe for the first time since the drink debuted in 2003. The new PSL is made with real pumpkin and all-natural flavors for an experience that's just as authentic as it is delicious.
Needless to say, the Internet is pretty pumped:
Wait, why are you still here reading this? Go out and get your first pumpkin spice latte of the season immediately. Like all good things, this baby is around for a limited time only, and you're not going to want to waste a single second hightailing it to your closest Starbucks. As the PSL manages to prove time and time again, fall is the greatest season of them all, and anyone who tells you otherwise is clearly insane.
