The West/Swift 2020 Campaign Needs To Happen

The MTV Video Music Awards has become infamous for its annual jaw-dropping moments — reminding us all of the beauty that is live television broadcasts. The 2015 VMAs did not disappoint on Sunday, Aug. 30, with Taylor Swift and Kanye West's public reconciliation standing out as one of the show's arguably most noteworthy moments. Back during the 2009 VMAs, West faced a firestorm of — understandable — backlash, after he rushed the stage during Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video. With the confidence that only "half a bottle of Hennessey" could deliver, West wrenched the microphone from Swift's hands to offer the now-iconic sentiment, "I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!" Clearly, this instance warranted some "Bad Blood" (see what I did there?) between the two artists.

Six years have gone by, and both Swift and West proved on Sunday night that they have both been able to "Shake it Off" (again, see what I did there?) when it comes to that fateful faux pas. Swift presented the esteemed Vanguard Award to West, calling the rapper a friend, and laid the feud to rest in one of the most on fleek ways possible, with the line, "To all the winners, I have to say...I'm really happy for you, and I'mma let you finish, but Kanye West has had one of the biggest careers of all time!"

Boom! For his part, West spent the beginning of his speech issuing a proper apology to Swift, where the rapper even seemed near tears while recalling the incident. He also went on to announce that he plans to run for President in 2020 — which may or may not have been meant in jest. This proclamation led to an onslaught of memes, because of course it did. One savvy Twitter user posted this meme, which has officially become my favorite — to quote West — "of all time."

Swift has proven herself a savvy business woman, displayed wisdom beyond her years, and successfully made the leap from country star to pop music icon. I, for one, feel that if West actually chooses to run for POTUS, he would be remised not to include Swift on the ticket. Let's take a look at why Swift would be the ultimate Vice President to West, as if I even needed to give you a list of reasons.

1. She Knows How To Squash Conflict Like A Boss

West wasn't the only one Swift buried the hatchet with at the 2015 VMAs. After suffering a brief Twitter feud, Swift performed onstage with Nicki Minaj, who opened the show. This pop crooner definitely knows how to keep the peace.

2. She Has The Smarts

It takes some serious intellect and acumen to be able to dispense a plethora of hit songs — in two different genres, no less! Swift has also showcased her smarts time and time again, whether it's discussing cultural issues or reflecting on life lessons.

3. She Stands Up For What She Believes In

After posting an extensive note on why she refused to have her music appear on Apple streaming, the service responded by changing its policy based on her complaints.

4. She Knows How To Gain Supporters

#SquadGoals, anyone? I'm convinced that by the end of the year, every celebrity will have officially become a member of Swift's ever-growing squad. I mean, Chris Rock and Matt LeBlanc showed up onstage for one of her 1989 tour performances. Her squad knows no limits.

5. She Can Help West Keep His Cool

Let's face it: West hasn't been known as one that balks at contention. While passion can most certainly be a good thing, Swift could be on hand to help the rapper keep his cool. The stresses of being President have to cause a flare in temperament from time to time — amiright??

I think I've made my point. Let's cross our fingers and toes that this glorious political ticket actually happens. If not, we always have upcoming albums from both artists to look forward to — and hopefully more VMA jaw-droppers.
