Storybrooke Is In For Trouble

by Emma Goddard

Once Upon A Time is airing its winter finale tonight, and the excitement couldn’t be more real. At least that is, my excitement. After a long season involving a dangerous adventure through Neverland to save Henry, and learning that Peter Pan doesn’t actually fly around in green tights, Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have done an incredible job of twisting all of our favorite childhood stories so that they’re really nothing like our childhood stories. Yet with all the drama between Pan and his fellow Disney-created and Brothers Grimm fairytale characters, you would think there wouldn’t be much left to work with. Wrong. Instead, OUAT lovers everywhere have to prepare themselves as Pan casts a curse that will wipe out everyone’s memories. To my neighbors: if you hear something that sounds like an Orca whale and/or howling cat outside your apartment tonight, it’s me crying.

So that leaves me to question what will happen to the cast if everyone actually loses their memory. I mean we’re talking the main characters here. The first season began this way as well, but we were able to rely on good ol’ Emma Swan to rescue everyone since she was the savior. Henry also did his part in making Emma believe that fairytales were real and that she was Snow White and Prince Charming’s offspring. So there’s that. We won’t know anything until the finale tonight, but these are a few ideas they might be able to work with:

1. Bringing Back Old Characters

I’m OUAT’s number one fan (yeah, that’s right) but I was pretty peeved when they just stopped doing anything with several of the beloved storylines. In one episode they basically implied that Mulan had feelings for Aurora, and then she decided to run off to join Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Then that was pretty much it. That’s a cliffhanger if I ever saw one. Oh, and of course you can’t forget August Booth, also known as Pinocchio, except that you probably can because we haven’t seen him since March. They made him look pretty bad because he just up and left Geppetto. You know, just his father. Nbd.

2. Hook And Emma Fall In Love And Leave Storybrooke

Just kidding, this would never happen. Although I am curious as to what will happen with the love triangle OUAT has created between Captain Hook, Emma and Neal. I have to admit though, I’m definitely Team Hook. He did pretty much put his life at risk for Emma despite the fact that her entire family does their best to hate on him.

3. Introducing New Characters

If Pan completes his task and the curse is cast (that rhymed), others would have to visit Storybrooke to save these beloved characters. Others being old characters (see above) or the many characters we have yet to see. Personally, I would be down to see Mowgli, Hercules, Jasmine and Aladdin, Tiana, John Smith and Pocahontas. And if I could choose anyone to play these roles, it would be Gerard Butler and Anne Hathaway. For all of them. If necessary though, I would be willing to play Pocahontas.

4. Peter Pan Decides Not To Be A Horrible Father

For those of you who watch OUAT regulary, you know that Peter Pan is actually Rumpelstiltskin’s father in boy form. If I spoiled that for any of you, sorry, but you really need to get on your OUAT game. I probably just like to see the best in people — even fictional people — but I have a feeling that Pan will change his mind last minute so that he can be a better father to his son. He might actually have the realization that yes, everyone needs to grow up at some point and that he can’t turn Storybrooke into yet another Neverland. Wow, I even cringe thinking about that. Also, who needs two Neverlands? Seems like a little much, but I guess that’s what you get with villains, right?

5. Tinker Bell Will Earn Her Wings

I still can’t believe that they killed off the Blue Fairy in the last episode. What was up with that? Anyway, she was the fairy chief… or something like that. So with her death, it’s possible that Tink will take over and somehow prove herself to get her wings back and to conjure up some kind of good magic with her pixie dust. That’s probably wishful thinking, but why not?

Honestly, I’m expecting something ridiculous to happen at the end of this episode, considering all the plot twists we’ve seen thus far, and I only hope that everyone doesn’t lose their memory again. I don’t think I could emotionally handle that. However, if it does pan out that way, I will probably produce my own version of OUAT.
