Oh, Miley! The truth is that no one really knew what to expect out of her MTV Video Music Awards fashions, but Miley Cyrus' 2015 VMAs red carpet look really got things started with a bang. Her suspender-and-not-much-more look was totally boundary pushing, risqué, and completely Miley Cyrus.
I'd expect nothing less from Cyrus than wild, edgy looks. And, well, she delivered. Tonight is already a reminder that Cyrus has undergone a bit of a style revolution in the last few years (yes, that's definitely an understatement). Just this week, we saw the "We Can't Stop" singer rocking a rainbow cape and matching pasties on Jimmy Kimmel while sporting bunny ears behind the scenes á la Ariana Grande's famous cat ears.
Pasties have also become an expected staple for the star, probably because she isn't afraid or ashamed of showing off her body. However, it's Cyrus' edgy style that has made some designers leery of working with her. For her Love Magazine shoot back in February of last year, for instance, the Editor-in-Chief of the glossy revealed that many designers had allegedly been unwilling to lend clothing to Cyrus due to her divisive nature. Tonight, Cyrus only reinforced that her style is very distinctly her own by rocking metallic pink suspenders strategically placed over her nipples.
Her first outfit of the night was totally in line with the singer's radical aesthetic.
The thigh-high boots, suspenders, and high pony were different from other looks on the carpet, but I love that Cyrus kept her makeup classic, with her signature red lip balancing out the daring ensemble.
This look was everything I expected and more, and I can't wait to see what she'll rock for the rest of the night.
