You May Have Known Frank Dillane Before 'FTWD'
The Los Angeles zombie apocalypse is finally here and it's starting off with a bang. Last Sunday night, 10.1 million viewers watched the Fear the Walking Dead premiere, according to Variety, which means its stars are on their way to becoming household names. At the center of the cast is Frank Dillane, who plays Nick Clark, a heroin addict who first sees his newly turned friend eating someone within the first few minutes of the pilot. If you were able to look away from that gory scene, however, you may have recognized Dillane and wondered where you've seen him before. And no, he’s not just a Johnny Depp lookalike. He’s been in a few other things you may remember, though the Fear The Walking Dead premiere suggests this will become his most notable role to date.
In the episode, the zombie apocalypse is just starting, so people aren't very aware of what's going on. Nick is the son of the lead character Madison Clark, a Los Angeles guidance school teacher, and has a sister in high school named Alicia. In the opening scene, Nick gets hit by a car after seeing a walker and people don’t believe him because of his drug use. He escapes the hospital to find his dealer in an attempt to figure out what really happened. Then the dealer, Cal, tries to kill Nick, who shoots Cal in self-defense. Of course, we all know what happens when someone dies in the world of The Walking Dead, so Cal reanimates just in time for Madison and her boyfriend Travis to see him and finally believe Nick's story.
This all serves as quite an introduction for Dillane, so here's what you should know about the actor behind one of the first witnesses of Fear The Walking Dead's terror.
His Father Is Stannis Freaking Baratheon
If you are a Game of Thrones fan, this is the most important nugget of information you can take away from this article, because we loved Stannis Baratheon — until he burnt his daughter alive at the cross. At least karma hit him pretty damn hard in the Season 5 finale. Anyways, maybe Stephen Dillane can get him Frank a spot in an upcoming season of GoT.
Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince
In the sixth movie, Dillane played Tom Riddle during the memory sequence of Professor Slughorn teaching the future Lord Voldemort about horcruxes.
Sense8
In the Netflix series, Dillane plays the reoccurring role of Shugs, a friend of Riley.
In The Heart Of The Sea
In December you can see Dillane in Ron Howard’s newest film, In the Heart of the Sea. The movie is based on the true events of a boating crew attacked by a sperm whale, leaving them stranded for 90 days. Chris Hemsworth and Cillian Murphy also star in the film.
Viena And The Fantomes
Another upcoming role for Dillane is playing Keyes in Viena and The Fantomes, which is about a roadie who travels around with a punk band. He stars alongside Zoë Kravitz, Dakota Fanning, Evan Rachel Wood, and The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal.
Welcome To Sarajevo
Enough about his future — let's talk about Dillane's past. This was his first role and he was just six years old when he played his real-life father’s son in the movie, which also stars Woody Harrelson and Marisa Tomei.
With the immediate success of Fear The Walking Dead, I'm sure Dillane's list of credits will only continue to grow from now on.
