Taylor Swift Is Serious About Being A Godmother

by Lisa Fogarty

Taylor Swift is head over heels in love — with her baby godson Leo, that is. Leo's mom is model and actress Jaime King, one of the pop singer's closest friends. King asked Swift to be her son's godmother this summer and, well before he was even born, she began preparing for his arrival by doing sweet things like throwing King a monster of a baby shower, despite having to do it in between concerts (proving there's no possible way she sleeps. Ever). And, according to Us Weekly, on Saturday, Swift dedicated the song "Never Grow Up" to Leo at her concert in Santa Clara, Calif., again showing her commitment to being the most caring and thoughtful godmother in the universe.

The 25-year-old addressed the huge crowd at Levi Stadium, explaining the sweet reason she had chosen to pull up a track from her 2010 album "Speak Now" — a song she says she now feels takes on a completely different meaning:

I wrote it when I was 18 or 19, but my friend just had a baby and she named me godmother of it. I was holding this little baby the other night, and I was just thinking differently. When you’re holding onto something that’s so innocent and so perfect and has no idea what’s coming for it with the world. The world is going to throw so many things at you as you grow up. It made me think of this song I wrote a long time ago called "Never Grow Up."

If you aren't tearing up yet, you're about to. Here's her lovely performance:

As you can imagine, King was touched by the dedication:

But something tells me the actress probably isn't too shocked by it, because there have been many, many times when Swift proved herself an amazing godmother.

She Makes Time For Leo

How many times have we heard people complain about how they are far too busy to call, write, or visit? I'm pretty sure Swift is one of the busiest bees on the planet, yet she stops everything she is doing and makes time to hang out with and get to know this precious peanut. The look of love on her face says everything you need to know about her feelings for Leo.

She Appreciates The Little Things

Like a baby's finger. And the fact that the world is so much bigger than you think it is before you invite children into your life. Swift is already evolving and finding deeper meaning in her own music, and it's exciting to think that her godson and this new relationship she has with him might influence her songwriting.

The Baby Shower She Threw For King Was Bananas

How Swift had time to plan a major event in the middle of a tour is anybody's guess, but the fact that she came through for King — And in a major way. Just look at the costumes! — shows how much love she has for Leo's mom.

She Supported King Throughout Her Pregnancy

Swift knew it wasn't just about waiting for a cuddly newborn to enter the world, her godmother duties began the moment King told her she was pregnant. She was constantly photographed hanging out with her buddy and bringing much-needed fun and joy into her life. The singer seemed to understand that the fact that she was pregnant didn't mean King had become a brand new person, and she treated her like just any other member of her squad.

She Is Incredibly Excited About Leo

Listen to Swift's reaction when she feels Leo kicking inside of King's belly. That's the sound of genuine, pure joy and wonder. King told Elle.com she kept things simple when she asked Swift to be her child's godmother: "We were hanging out on the couch and I was like, 'Hey, would ever want to be a godmother?' And she was like, 'Uh, yes!' And she cried and, you know, all the fun things that best friends do."

King Always Knew Swift Would Be The Perfect Godmother

Consider it fate. King told Elle.com she didn't take the act of choosing a godmother for her second child lightly, but that Swift was a natural choice. "I always knew she was going to be the godmother if I had another baby," King said. "Choosing a godmother is a very sacred and important thing in our family. They're going to be guiding your child, and they're responsible for them if something was to ever happen. We try and choose people who we know would raise our child the way that we would raise our child and her thoughtfulness, her kindness, her authenticity ... is so powerful to me. She's so uninhibited in her giving ... It’s just beyond."

It's only a matter of time before Swift starts including Leo and his big brother James in her shows — they could walk the runway and sing her songs with the best of them.
