Ms. Marvel is making a lot of firsts lately. In the 2014 reboot, Kamala Khan became the first American Muslim superhero and the first woman of color to wear her uniform. Now, the upcoming Ms. Marvel audiobook is the first to be adapted directly from the source material.
In lieu of a narrator, the audiobook features a full voice cast and sound effects. Marvel and distributing partner GraphicAudio are billing it as "a movie in your mind," but, if we're being honest, it's really more like an old-school radio drama. I know, we're all too young to remember those halcyon days, but you understand where I'm going with this, right?
Coming out August 17, the Ms. Marvel audiobook will cover the first five issues of Kamala Khan's story, which, as two Bustle writers pointed out last year, is pretty relatable to anyone who has existed at an intersection, even if it was just the place where "young" and "female" meet.
Those of you with young people in your lives should definitely consider picking up a copy. The audiobook is recommended for ages 13 and up, and is designed to be accessible to fans and newcomers alike. Whether the kids in your life need superheroes who look like them, or you want to bring diversity into their entertainment, Ms. Marvel is exactly what you need.
Ms. Marvel is currently available for preorder, with prices starting at $9.99 for a digital download. While you wait, you can watch the exclusive Ms. Marvel trailer on Mashable.
