And The Latest M&M Flavor Is...

by Erin McKelle

If you're an M&Ms lover, or just a huge chocoholic like myself, you're going to love the latest to come from everyone's favorite candy company: Pecan Pie M&Ms have been sighted at Wal-Mart, just in time for the upcoming fall season (because you guys, it's already halfway through August. Where did the summer go?). What could be a more delicious way to usher in the season of bonfires and flannels than a chocolate candy inspired by the ooey-gooey sweetness that is pecan pie? It's worth noting that no official statement has yet been made about the new flavor; however, an eagle-eyed reader of The Impulsive Buy spotted it on the shelf, snapped a photo, and submitted it — so we probably owe him or her a vote of thanks.

These M&Ms may not actually have any pecans in them, though; noted The Impulsive Buy, "These just have an artificial pecan pie flavor. But Mars has M&Ms technology that allows them to put nuts and crispy rice into M&Ms. So why can't they use that to put pecan bits into these?" It's a question worth asking, although alas, we may never know the answer. Ah well; you can't win 'em all, can you?

We also don't know whether or not the sweet treat is currently available as a nationwide release — but in the meantime, we've got plenty of other eclectic chocolate flavors to choose from. These seven M&Ms flavors may be unexpected, but they're all definitely still delicious.

1. Crispy M&Ms

If you haven't heard that Crispy M&Ms are back, I'm happy to report they are once again available on store shelves. Filled with rice crisps, the result is sort of like a chocolate Rice Krispy Treat.

2. Gingerbread

To celebrate the holidays in 2013, M&M released a gingerbread flavor of their candy. Unfortunately, these were a limited edition flavor and are therefore no longer available.

3. Peanut Butter

I can speak from experience when I say that Peanut Butter M&Ms are incredible; think Peanut Butter Cup, only better. According to Mars, they're also made with real peanut butter. Yum.

4. Dark Mint

Dark chocolate and mint M&Ms? Yes, please! This is by far my favorite flavor, as they taste like you're eating fresh peppermint. As an added bonus, they leave your breath both smelling and tasting fresh, so if you don't have any gum around, they'll still do the trick. Anything for more chocolate, right?

5. Candy Apple

Mars released a Candy Apple M&Ms in 2014. Like the Pecan Pie ones that are currently making the rounds, they were also a fall release; however, they were sadly only available for a limited time.

6. Pretzel

If you're already a fan of the chocolate and pretzel combination, you need to get your hands on a bag of Pretzel M&Ms, stat! They combine the best of salty and sweet, so they're prefect for those times when you just can't decide if you're craving sodium or sugar.

7. Vanilla Shake

Vanilla Shake M&Ms are only available in Australia, so sorry to disappoint if you live in the States and were hoping to get your hands on this delicious flavor. Reports say they taste kind of similar to regular M&Ms, but let's be honest: It's the fact that they're named after a milkshake that counts.
