6 Times Real Life Was Like A Disney Movie
Yes, there are a lot of awful things going on around the world. Yes, it's Wednesday, which means that your work week isn't even halfway over somehow. But look: it's August and you're not a bad person for taking time off from the news of the day and your work to watch a video of a real-life Thumper and Bambi playing with each other outside of a YMCA in Colorado.
I mean, come on. You're a human being, aren't you? You are a good and decent person even though you clicked on a cute listicle about baby animals and Disney movies instead of a news story about Legionnaires' disease.
OK, now that that disclaimer is out of the way, and I have convinced you that you are a serious person despite reading this, and I am a serious person despite writing this, let me just say: this video has the freakin' goods. I am a connoisseur of videos depicting friendship among unlikely animals and let me tell you, this is one of the best. The deer, so hoppy and joyous and frolic-y. The bunny, slightly and understandably a little spooked by the bigger creature, still game for whatever game the deer wants to play. It is magical. Just watch:
And somehow, it's not the only time that real life has managed Disney levels of cuteness. Here are five others:
1. The Fox and the Hound
So obviously this video is worth it for the original song alone (my god). But Sniffer the fox and Tinni the hound are a true example of Disney-level cross-species animal friendship – hopefully minus the sad ending of the actual movie.
2. The Jungle Book
Tippi Degre, the daughter of French wildlife photographers, grew up in the African Bush and developed an astonishing connection with the animals around her. The childhood photos of the now-grown Tippi cuddling with tigers, riding elephants and ostriches, and cleaning the fur of baboons have given her the nickname "the real-life Mowgli."
3. 101 Dalmatians
OK, it is physically impossible for a dog mother to have a litter of 101 pups, but the daughter of a dog from the live-action movie 102 Dalmatians did give birth to the largest dalmatian litter ever a few years ago: 18 adorable puppies, all healthy. The average size of dalmatian litters is eight or nine, according to The Daily Mail, which ran photos of the dogs' bedraggled owner taking all 18 pups for a walk at once.
4. Toy Story
Could this be the best bumper ornament ever? I mean, that's a pretty low bar, so gonna say yes.
5. Mary Poppins
Skydiver Erik Roner attempted to gracefully fall to earth using only a reinforced umbrella in 2013. What's weird is that it actually seems to work some of the way – until the air pressure turns the umbrella inside-out and he's forced to rely on a backup parachute instead. Some Disney movie moments, as it turns out, actually require magic to make happen.
