9 Fall College Fashion Trends For 2015
It's hard not to love the autumn, what with the awesome fashion trends that are born every season (and the pumpkin spice lattes, too). IMO, the best clothing surfaces in the fall — from flannel crop tops to burgundy tights to fringed jackets — so naturally, the best fall college fashion trends surface, too. I mean, everyone wants to return to school with the hottest wardrobe on campus, right? Sure, there are other things to worry about — like finding your classes or trying to get along with your roommate — but let's not forget the importance of fashion amidst the madness.
This upcoming fall, there are some new (or old, depending on how you look at these things) sartorial trends that will undoubtedly be hitting college campuses. Leather backpacks and bomber jackets, for instance, are super '80s and '90s, but they are making a fierce comeback in re-vamped style. It's rare that I find myself wishing I could go back to school, but thinking about all the campus-friendly, on-trend items I'll be missing out on is definitely getting me there.
Whether you're digging the whole atleisure thing or haven't taken off your favorite romper since June, here are nine fashion items that are going to totes be trending this fall. Get ready to add them to your back-to-college shopping list, guys. Or your not-back-to-college-but-still-getting-it-anyway list, of course.
1. Nike Huaraches
Nike Hurarache Prsn Violet And White, $150, flightclub.com
These are one of the trendiest sneakers out there at the moment, and they will easily transition from summer into fall and winter. I've even been seeing Nike Huaraches all over Tumblr and on fashion blogs the last couple of years. This trendy sneaker comes in a variety of colors and is guaranteed to go with a lot of the clothing items already in your closet.
2. Jumpsuits All The Time
Geo Print Jumpsuit, $28, forever21.com
Jumpsuits are basically autumn's version of a summer romper. This item allows you to look put together for your 8 a.m. class without you having to wake up early to do so. Now you have more time to grab a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks because coffee is definitely needed before communicating with other humans in the morning. Am I right?
3. Bomber Jacket
True MA1 Padded Bomber Jacket, $105, topshop.com
Bomber jackets are arguably going to be the "it" outerwear items for fall. The look is very edgy, yet it can be extremely feminine depending on the fit and print on the jacket. The style also pairs well with dresses and jeans, winning the versatility game.
4. Waterproof Tote Bag
Longchamp Large Le Pliage Tote, $145, nordstrom.com
Not a fan of backpacks? Just opt for a waterproof tote bag instead. This tote bag will hold all of your essentials for class, including your laptop and other tech. Its waterproof nature will also protect your items from becoming damaged due to impromptu rain or snowstorms when you've just happened to leave your umbrella in your dorm room.
5. Comfy Boyfriend Jeans
Distressed Boyfriend Jeans, $33, forever21.com
With the return of flares and bell bottoms in 2015, jeggings and skinny jeans have arguably been losing some of their momentum. College students love to feel comfortable while strolling to class or studying in the library, though, which means loose-fitting boyfriend jeans are still going to be a must-have on campus. Anything distressed will be especially trendy because of how edgy yet easy to style the look is.
6. Flatform Loafers
Pointed Faux Patent Flatform Loafers, $30, forever21.com
Although wearing high heels while walking around campus is a big no-no for practical reasons, flatform loafers are an alternative to all your chic footwear needs. These black patent leather ones can be combined with almost every fashion item in your closet and will dress your look up a bit. You can be stylish while remaining comfortable, guys.
7. Statement Sweatshirt
ASOS Sweatshirt With Oh Crap Print, $51, asos.com
Sweatshirts are a student essential, but sweatshirts with clever sayings on them put the icing on the cake. Statement jumpers can be paired with leggings and sneakers on a chilly Sunday afternoon, or skinny jeans and ankle boots for a cute yet relaxed look for the library. The possibilities are endless.
8. Wrap Skirt
ASOS Curve Wrap Skirt With Embellishment, $81, asos.com
Looking to purchase the perfect clothing for college parties? Well, I am here to tell you that wrap skirts will be a trending bottom this fall. They're just so chic and will show off your flawless legs. Plus, the majority of wrap skirts I've seen are elasticated, which means they'll be super comfortable while hugging your hips.
9. Dainty Necklaces
Cube Charm Necklace, $4, forever21.com
Less is going to be more in terms of wearing jewelry in college. Dainty necklaces can be mixed and matched with other jewelry and pair well with everything. Plus, unlike a jewel-encrusted statement choker, they won't be distracting while you're trying to take notes in class.
Seriously, y'all: The thought of wearing a wrap skirt with a statement sweater, accessorized with patent leather flatforms is making me want to take Bio 101 all over again.
