They say celebrity deaths and breakups come in threes and, unfortunately for the romantically-inclined members of the Twittersphere, there is a new trio of breakups to shatter our beliefs in true love. First it was Gavin and Gwen, then it was Zayn and Perrie, and now the real kicker — Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have broken up. The horrified response to the news is understanding; after four decades of marriage, Miss Piggy and Kermit's breakup has shocked Twitter and the greater public in general. How will we ever believe in love after this blow?

The relentless stream of Twitter commentary that has commenced in wake of the news has been fiercely passionate.
