A New Dr. Dre Album Is Finally On Its Way!

by Tracy Dye

While you have been enjoying your selected ear candy with your Beats By Dre headphones, news broke that there will finally be some new beats dropping from the hip-hop icon himself. Billboard confirmed on Saturday, Aug. 1, that Dr. Dre will be releasing a new album titled Compton: A Soundtrack on Friday, Aug. 7. The rapper and producer has been teasing release of the LP, Detox, for what seems like a decade, but the project has since been scrapped. Dre tweeted a video clip where he detailed the reasons for nixing Detox in favor of the upcoming release, which was inspired by the the upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton.

"I was leaving the set, coming to the studio and I felt myself just being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album,” he said. “And I kept it under wraps. And the album is finished.” As for Detox, Dre's reasons for foregoing its release was that he felt it simply wasn't a good enough record to offer his fans. "I don't think I did a good enough job, and I couldn't do that to my fans and I couldn't do that to myself, to be perfectly honest with you. I just wasn't feeling it."

There should be no sore feelings over the pulling of Detox, especially considering that Compton looks like it could be poised to be Dre's best album to date. Several rap moguls will be featured on the LP, including Dre's former protégé and longtime friend, Eminem. Since first taking part in helming Eminem's breakout career in the early 2000s, Dre and Eminem have proven to be the ultimate dynamic duo with several standout collaborations. In celebration of Dre's upcoming release and reunion with Mr. Slim Shady, let's take a look at five of the best Dre and Eminem collaborations:

1. "Forgot About Dre," 2009

Dre and Eminem take shots and shut down haters by joining forces in the addictive track from 2009. Remember, kids, arson and police run-ins can make for a pulsing music video, but don't try any of these things at home. Mmkay?

2. "Guilty Conscience," 2009

Want to make a moral dilemma even more confounding? Just call up Dre and Eminem to help you toggle between right and wrong.

3. "Encore," 2004

With help from Dre and 50 Cent, this Eminem track is the ultimate trifecta of hip hop talent.

4. "I Need A Doctor," 2011

This is possibly one of the best — if not the best — Dre and Eminem collaborations to date. The song and video showcase the close-knit relationship between the two artists, along with ways they have both helped each other through personal trials.

5. "Say What You Say," 2002

You gotta love this vintage Eminem and Dre collaboration.

If history has taught us anything, it's that these two don't record a track together unless it will absolutely slay. I'm definitely looking forward to what Compton has in store.
