9 Songs For Extroverts

by Tracy Dye

Many people respond to the fact that I work remotely as a writer with an arched eyebrow and a, "Really? You?" This isn't due to questions on my affinity for wordplay or creative passions — most of my social circle simply can't wrap their respective brains around the fact that I can spend eight or more hours a day in an exclusive relationship with my Macbook, being that I'm an extrovert. Operating with the beaming smile and verbosity of Ellie Kemper in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, I am one who not only enjoys, but craves the glory of human contact. Both my roommates have become extremely privy to this, as I spring to them with alacrity after a day of typing away to engage in some long-awaited, real-life conversation. Social interaction #FTW — amiright?? Of course, writing is a form of conversation in itself — a decidedly more one-sided conversation, but a conversation nonetheless. And if you've read any of my posts, you can probably tell I'm a big fan of getting borderline tangential.

When you're an extrovert, finding outlets to let your gregarious heart sing is integral. What better way to celebrate your outgoingness than with a quintessential soundtrack for extroverts? For all my fellow extroverts far and wide, I have compiled a list of songs that speak to our collective affability. These songs may catalyze an urge to get up and dance, which is fine, being that we usually are the first ones to get on the floor. Enjoy!

1. C+C Music Factory "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)"

Remember what I said about extroverts being the first to make a move onto the dance floor?

2. Ke$ha "Blah Blah Blah"

As long as people are talking, we don't care if all they say is "blah, blah, blah" — we extroverts are just happy for the conversation.

3. The Backstreet Boys "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)"

Yes, BSB, I will rock my body with everybody — you don't even have to ask. I would also like to note that the boys from one of my favorite quintets are being quite the extroverts, themselves, in the above video. Normally, one would get overwhelmed over being transformed into a monster, but these boys don't let that keep them from partying.

4. Cyndi Lauper "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"

Fun is the name of the game when you're an extrovert, and few articulate this as well as the inimitable Cyndi Lauper.

5. Will Smith "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It"

Oozing an unbridled confidence, Will Smith understands what it is to be an extrovert looking for the perfect dance track.

6. Céline Dion "All By Myself"

This one is for when you need to mourn the Friday and Saturday nights when all your friends have decided to "stay in."

7. Christina Aguilera "Genie In A Bottle"

What extrovert hasn't thought, "Come on and let me out" whenever enclosed indoors for too long?

8. Montell Jordan "This Is How We Do It"

Who is ready to party?? If you're an extrovert — or Montell Jordan — the answer is probably, "Always."

9. Carly Rae Jepsen "I Really Like You"

When you're an extrovert, it can be difficult to contain your feelings. If you're a true extrovert with a crush, there's a good chance said crush will know about it right quick. Feel free to channel your inner Carly Rae Jepsen — complete with a flash mob — when facing this situation.

There you have it. I hope you feel fully equipped for your next round of dancing, karaoke, and conversation.
