Is Nick Done With 'Bachelorette' For Good?
Even though I've been rooting for Shawn all season long, it was still heartbreaking to see Kaitlyn say goodbye to Nick Viall on The Bachelorette season finale Monday night. They definitely had a connection from the moment they met in person for the first time at that improv date in New York, and from Nick's point of view, it's easy to see how he thought he was the clear frontrunner. He made all of the other guys jealous and insecure, and Kaitlyn broke the rules for him. Why wouldn't he think he'd be proposing during that final rose ceremony? But he ended up getting blindsided when Kaitlyn sent him home instead, and it was so hard to watch Nick get rejected as one of the final two on The Bachelorette again. So what's his next move? Is Nick planning to go on The Bachelorette again? Don't worry — he's already answered that question.
(Update: While Nick said that he wouldn't go on The Bachelorette again, he did tell Us Weekly in a July 28 interview that he would consider being The Bachelor: "It's one of those things I’d have to obviously spend a lot of time [discussing] with my family and friends, but I can’t say that I wouldn't.")
While talking to People after the finale aired, Nick admitted that this season was his final stab at finding love on the show, and can you blame him? Poor guy's already had his heart ripped out in the exact same scenario twice, so it's not too surprising he isn't jumping at the chance to sign up to do it again. In the interview, he explained that there is "zero percent chance" he'll be back, and that he is "done with The Bachelorette for good." Good for you, Nick. He doesn't need it anyway.
He also admitted that he has no hard feelings toward Shawn or Kaitlyn — something that was obvious in the graceful way he conducted himself when he sat down with each of them during After The Final Rose— and it definitely seems like he has learned a lot since his Andi Dorfman days. He told the mag:
It was unfortunate and it was frustrating. We looked immature and petty. But I have no animosity towards Shawn. And I didn't get to know him well, but I did get to know Kaitlyn, and I trust her judgment. No matter what I think, that says something. Shawn and I just butted heads. I don't know if I would have done anything differently. I wish them both the best.
If you're feeling disappointed that Nick won't be back (because let's face it, he's adorable and entertaining as hell), don't give up hope. Maybe someday, somewhere in the future, ABC will actually take the hint Nick's probably trying to drop and make him The Bachelor. You have to admit, it's a pretty awesome idea. And it's not like he doesn't know the ropes by now.
After everything he's been through, I really want this guy to find love with someone amazing. As every Bach alum ever would say, "everything happens for a reason," and maybe that reason was to prepare him for the awesome person he has yet to meet. I'm hoping he'll keep us updated as his search continues — and, um, throw in a few more shirtless photoshoots while you're at it. Thanks.
