Before they were a fashion powerhouse (and on the Fashion Week schedule with her eponymous brand), David and Victoria Beckham were simply Posh and Becks, super celebrity couple with the salary to match. And what did they do with that salary? Spend it on matching outfits, of course.

And who doesn’t love matching couples outfits? They couldn’t even resist adding a pop of matching colour for their wedding reception outfits, opting for matching bright purple numbers, and – in true ‘90s style – cutting their wedding cake with a sword.

But it was matching all-leather outfits that really put them on the ‘90s style map, and began the twenty-something year journey to the slick styled couple we know now. The standing band collar, the unfitted leather trousers, the half-zipped styling. Perfection.

Of course, it wasn’t just outfits that matched. Hairstyles soon followed. Victoria Beckham ditched her Posh Spice lob for a shorter, spikier, pixie cut that looked very similar to David’s. Add gel to perfect those fringe points, matching indigo-dyed denim and black tops. It's a lewk.

From hairstyles to jewellery. It was the ‘90s, so bigger was better. Enter: the biggest cross necklaces you’ve ever seen on the red carpet. Covered in diamonds, of course. Add low-rise flares for peak ‘90s flair.

Reminiscent of the Beckhams’ 1999 wedding ceremony outfits (and later immortalised in wax for their Madame Tussauds figures) the couple’s all-white 2003 MTV Music Awards outfits are up there in the best Posh and Becks looks of all time.

When you’re one of the world’s biggest celebrity couples, at the height of Beckham-mania, no less, there is no such thing as being off-duty. Even walking through an airport in Japan, the Beckhams’ had their matching couple style switched to 100 with matching black blazers and white T-shirts.

For an event usually decked out in glitz and glamour, this look (shall we call it sea-shanty chic?), slightly misses the boat for the Venice Film Festival. But it's the nostalgic ‘90s pieces that do it for me. His baker boy hat and waistcoat? Her one-shoulder dress over a vest? Iconic.

Off the boat and into the boardroom with a bang. The Beckhams always understand the assignment; matching but not identical, but twinning in style inspiration. Stepping it up a gear in grey tailoring, the Beckhams meant business for the launch of Victoria Beckham’s first fragrance.

Lastly, but by no means least, I couldn’t make it through this list without mentioning the Beckhams’ love for larger-than-life sunglasses. Aviators have been the couple's go-to for paparazzi protection over the years, but Victoria is known for her signature oversized sunnies, too.
