With the 2021 Olympics under way, it’s time to take a walk down memory lane and see the Team USA gymnastics uniforms that came before.

1948
In 1948, the U.S. gymnastics uniform at the London Olympics was a romper and leotard hybrid, with a slightly looser fit and more coverage over the chest and bottom.

1964
In Tokyo in 1964, the U.S. gymnastics leotard looked more like it does today in terms of fit, though it was very classic in a simple solid navy blue with no embellishment or pattern to speak of.

1984
In Los Angeles in 1984, the U.S. gymnastics uniform consisted of a long-sleeved leotard, decorated in a number of red, white, and blue patterns that let American pride truly shine.

1992
The Olympics in Barcelona called for a pared-down version of the long-sleeved leotard, with athletes opting for a bright white that was understated and classic, yet stood out in a crowd.

1996
The 1996 Atlanta Games brought leotards that harkened back to the decade before, in bright white but decorated with an American flag motif.

2004
Athens was the location for the 2004 Olympics, to which American gymnasts brought all the glitz and glam, opting for bright red leotards with not only a metallic sheen, but also an allover crystal embellishment and sheer mesh sleeves and chest.

2012
Forget the red, white, and blue in 2012, when the U.S. team wore bright pink metallic leotards in the Olympic Games in London.
For the delayed 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, held currently in 2021, Team USA made sure their uniforms shined bright (quite literally), with not only a red, white, and blue chevron pattern, but an allover metallic sheen and crystal embellishment from tip to toe.
