And just like that, 2022 has its first viral fashion moment. Part pants, part boots, the hybrid design known as “pantaboots” made its debut last October at Diesel’s Spring/Summer 2022 runway show. The intriguingly impractical piece was part of the first collection designed by the brand’s new creative director, Glenn Martens.

Julia Fox stepped out in a pair of faded black-gray Diesel joots (jeans + boots) for a date night with Kanye West in Los Angeles. The 31-year-old actress has also been favoring lots of monochromatic looks with textural elements, as seen here.

Diesel, however, isn’t the only brand blurring the line between boots and pants. Kim Kardashian is a longtime fan of Balenciaga’s version — skin-tight, thigh-high “pantashoes.”

The Balenciaga “pantashoes” first hit the runways in 2017. On a recent ice cream date with Pete Davidson , Kim K was spotted wearing what appears to be — you guessed it — a pair in black leather.

Balenciaga’s infamous pantashoes have literally been everywhere. Salma Hayek, Lily Aldridge, and Kylie Jenner are just a few of the celebs who have worn the iconic design.

And just to be clear: Variations on pantaboots are nothing new. Back in 2018, Jennifer Lopez, ever the trendsetter, stepped out wearing a pair of slouchy denim boots from the Versace Resort 2019 collection.

What do ya know? Here’s J.Lo again, rocking thigh-high denim boots on the set of her 2018 movie Second Act in New York City. Not quite pantaboots or joots, but you get the idea.
