Model Halima Aden Slays The Yeezy Season 5 Show
Kanye West is known for shaking things up. With his departure from the stereotypical idea of “high fashion” on the runway and his ability to turn a runway show into a concert, unpredictability is the name of the game. Now that Yeezy Season 5 is upon us, people are dying to know what West has up his sleeve. His runway show featured an exciting relative newcomer to the modeling scene. Who is Halima Aden? She’s the next “it” model that needs to be on your radar.
In Yeezy Season 4, West made it a point to cast multiracial models, and he only seems to be continuing to focus on diversity for the range of Yeezy models in 2017. According to Allure, Aden is a Somali-Muslim woman who was just signed to IMG Models, the agency which represents such big names such as Gigi Hadid and Gisele Bündchen. And on Feb. 15, Aden walked in the Yeezy Season 5 show, wearing her hijab.
“I signed with the top modeling agency in the WORLD and still wore my hijab as my crown. Don't ever change yourself...Change the game,” Aden wrote in an Instagram caption. According to Glamour, she also competed in Minnesota’s Miss USA competition wearing a hijab, so when it comes to “changing the game” as far as beauty standards are concerned, she certainly knows a thing or two about that.
Aden couldn't look more fierce for CR Fashion Book.
Claps all around. People couldn't be more here for Aden's Yeezy appearance.
Aden made a statement in a stunning fur coat.
Congratulations are definitely in order. She did the dang thing!
If you follow her on Instagram, you'll see all of her beautiful poses and be able to keep up with her accomplishments.
She is such an inspiration.
This isn't the first time that West has had diverse models take the runway, and hopefully it won't be the last. I have a feeling it certainly won't be the last we see of Aden, at least!
Shout out to Aden for slaying on the runway and for having this major moment.
