On Sept. 30, Instagram announced several new features coming to DMs. If you choose to update your Messages when the features roll out, here's a look at what you'll find.

Messenger & Instagram DMs Are Connecting

You'll soon be able to connect Messenger to Instagram. While DMs from friends using Instagram will still be in your Instagram app, you can now use the Messenger app to DM someone on Instagram without changing apps, and vice versa.

New Messaging Controls Are Coming

Now that your Instagram inbox has the ability to grow, you'll get to decide who can DM you from both Facebook and Instagram.

Your Chats Are About To Get Colorful

You'll be able to add colors and themes, like Tie-dye, Pride, and Love, to your DMs.

Get Ready For Vanish Mode

If you and a friend opt into Vanish mode, your chat will — you guessed it — disappear once you exit.

You Can Make Shortcuts For Emoji Reactions

Need the crying-laughing emoji on hand at all times? You'll be able to create a shortcut for your go-to emojis so you can react to messages ASAP.

You Can Make Your Own Boomerang Selfie Stickers

You'll be able to send your friends DIY moving stickers — using your face.

You Can Watch A Video With A Friend

You'll be able to video call a friend and enjoy IGTV, Facebook Watch, TV shows, and movies together.

There Are New Reporting Options

Along with being able to report individual messages, you can now report entire DM conversations.

Stay tuned. Instagram is currently testing these new features in select countries, and will roll them out globally soon.
