Following in the footsteps of their parents the day before, Queen Elizabeth II’s eight grandchildren mounted a vigil in her honor at Westminster Hall on Sept. 17.

Prince William led the group, followed by his brother, Prince Harry, and cousins Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall, Lady Louise Windsor, and James, Viscount Severn.

It was the first time in British history that the monarch’s grandchildren have participated in the tradition, per the BBC.

Both William and Harry wore the Blues and Royals military uniform after the Duke of Sussex received special permission from his father, King Charles III.

The queen’s grandchildren stood vigil for 15 minutes with their heads bowed as members of the public shuffled through to pay their respects.

The vigil was just one of the many ways members of the royal family have honored the late Queen Elizabeth throughout the UK’s ongoing 10 days of mourning.

The queen’s funeral on Sept. 19 will bring about the end of the nation’s official mourning period.
