Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis is here, and now, it’s time to see how the star-studded cast brought Elvis Presley and his inner circle to life. Austin Butler plays The King — and as you may have heard, the accent hasn’t quite gone away after filming. “It becomes a fiber of your being,” he told ET.

The real Presley was 21 years old when he released his debut album and embarked on the path to mega-stardom — and his iconic physicality also proved a challenge for Butler, too. “My body just started shutting down the day after I finished Elvis,” he told GQ.

Tom Hanks plays Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. “Was he a cheap crook that played fast and loose? Yeah ... [but] he was a man who brought joy to everything he did — along with just a little bit of larceny,” Hanks said, per Insider.

As Smithsonian points out, Parker had a mysterious past. Though he originally claimed he was born in West Virginia, he was actually from the Netherlands. He did briefly serve in the army, but went AWOL and later served as a touring carnival worker before teaming up with Presley.

Olivia DeJonge plays Priscilla, Presley’s wife of six years. The pair met when Presley was serving abroad in the army. He was 24, and she was 14. They married seven years later. “I always had an eye on him because everyone in the world was after him,” Priscilla told People.

Priscilla signaled her support for the man playing her ex-husband at the 2022 Met Gala, where she walked the red carpet with Butler.

The Elvis cast doesn’t include a grown-up Lisa Marie Presley — her dad died when she was 9 years old, but it does include a glimpse of The King in his role as The Dad. In a tweet, Lisa Marie said Butler “channeled and embodied my father’s heart & soul beautifully.”

Though Presley died when Lisa Marie was very young, she told Lorraine that she “knew there was a great love there.” Even as a child, “there was a really strong connection there since the minute I can remember ... I felt like I was the most important thing to him.”

Vernon and Gladys Presley are portrayed by Richard Roxburgh and Helen Thomson, respectively. Presley’s mom is credited with buying her son’s very first guitar, and he more than returned the favor — even purchasing Graceland as a home they could all live in together.

“I would do anything to make sure my mama and daddy never have to live in poverty ever again,” Butler says as Presley in the Elvis trailer.
