Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled to the United Kingdom to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee weekend — their first royal appearance together since moving to California in 2020.

Though they were spotted at Buckingham Palace with some members of the royal family June 2 (and reportedly introduced baby Lilibet to the queen), their first official appearance happened the next day during a thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips (Princess Anne’s children) were among the royal family members Meghan and Harry connected with during their appearance. The thanksgiving service was one of several events commemorating Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th year of being a monarch.

According to the New York Post, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted with both cheers and boos during their public appearance.

Though Meghan and Harry reportedly met with Queen Elizabeth II ahead of the weekend’s festivities, the 96-year-old monarch sat out the thanksgiving service due to “discomfort,” per a statement from Buckingham Palace.

Meghan and Harry did not seem to interact with Prince William and Kate Middleton during the service. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge entered St. Paul’s Cathedral separately. They opted to sit with other members of the royal family, including Prince Charles and Camilla Shand.

Though the royal couples did not reunite during the event, they did technically appear in at least one photo together — if you squint. Meghan and Harry could be seen from their seats at the front of the church as William, Kate, Charles, and Camilla went to take their own.

According to People, Meghan and Harry skipped lunch with the royal family following the service — so no meeting up there, either. And as the Daily Mail reports, William and Kate are also not expected to attend Lilibet’s first birthday June 4, since they’ll be at another event.
