What's Taylor Swift's Next Single?
Get ready, Swifties: Rumor has it Taylor Swift's next single is a remix of "Bad Blood." As BuzzFeed News reports, the rumor may have started when Republic Records allegedly posted information about a "Bad Blood" remix on their website on Monday afternoon. (BuzzFeed News explains that Republic is the "distribution partner" of Swift's record label, Big Machine Records.) Once fans got wind of it, the page in question was supposedly taken down — but not before someone took what appears to be a screenshot of it. (Of course, it's always important to remember that screenshots can be faked.)
A representative for Big Machine told BuzzFeed News that "nothing that was correct would have been removed" and "Taylor always announces her single choices first," but I'm still a little suspicious. After all, this isn't the first rumor regarding a rework of "Bad Blood": In February, Swift denied reports that Kanye West was adding a verse to the 1989 track. Was she telling the truth? Or was she just trying to throw us off the scent? Hmm...
Let's pretend for a moment that this latest rumor has been confirmed: Who would sound good on a "Bad Blood" remix, anyway? A rapper? A DJ? Another singer? Let's talk about some of the possibilities:
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj is the Queen of Features — and with good reason! Often, the rapper's remixes sound even better than the original versions.
Calvin Harris
Well, Scottish DJ/producer Calvin Harris and Swift are rumored to be an item at the moment... I don't know about you, but I'd definitely be open to "Bad Blood" getting an EDM makeover.
Kanye West
Yeah, I know Tay already said this wasn't happening, but I still think West would be a great addition to "Bad Blood." Never say never...
Cashmere Cat
Much like Harris, Cashmere Cat is an incredibly talented young DJ/producer who could put his unique spin on "Bad Blood." Thanks to his work with Ariana Grande, his star is on the rise.
Katy Perry
Dun dun DUNNN. Because "Bad Blood" is rumored to have been inspired by Swift's rivalry with Katy Perry, the media firestorm that would occur if the two women jumped on a remix together would be EPIC. They could just sit back, relax, and watch as their song sold millions and millions of copies worldwide — they wouldn't even have to lift a finger! Maybe it would help them bury the (alleged) hatchet?
Or maybe, just maybe, they were never really feuding in the first place and we've blown this whole thing out of proportion. I don't think we'll ever know for sure. Regardless, it would be an interesting move, to say the least.
I'll be sure to keep you posted as more information regarding a possible "Bad Blood" remix becomes available.
