'N sync's JC Chasez Creates New Girl Group but They'll Never Live Up to These 7 Girl Bands
Former 'N Sync member JC Chasez — yes, the guy you would have picked second to Justin Timberlake — isn't performing with the guys anymore, but he's not out of music. JC is spending his time working as musical adviser to the new girl group he helped create, Girl Radical. The group — which features 11 girl members of different backgrounds, each with the given last name "Radical", because, why not? — released their first music video, a cover of No Doubt's "Just a Girl". We haven't had a serious attempt at an American girl group in years, and this one could slide right into a missing niche — but will they live up to the girl groups of the past? Here's some of our favorites girl groups that faded into obscurity after their initial success.
Eden's Crush
Major Hit: "Get Over Yourself"
Fun Fact: This manufactured group was created in 2001 on the competition Popstars, which was basically like Making the Band for people who wanted to be the next Britney Spears. They didn't last long, but Nicole Scherzinger found fame when she left the group to perform with The Pussycat Dolls.
3LW
Major Hit: "No More (I'ma Do Right)"
Fun Fact: This three-girl group overlapped with The Cheetah Girls, and two of the founding members went on to perform with the group. However, only one member — Adrienne Bailon — went on to date Rob Kardashian.
B*Witched
Major Hit: "C'est la Vie"
Fun Fact: This Irish girl group had their song "C'est la Vie" in a ton of your favorite childhood Disney Channel Movies like Smart House and Life-Size. They also recently got back together — you can follow the newly reunited group on Twitter.
En Vogue
Major Hit: "My Loving (You're Never Gonna Get It)"
Fun Fact: Though this R&B group didn't stay "en vogue" for very long, but they did manage to snag a role in the 1995 film Batman Forever where they played a group of prostitutes who attempt to seduce Batman ... only to have Robin show up instead.
Girl Aloud
Major Hit: "No Good Advice"
Fun Fact: This English-Irish pop group has been together since 2002, and all five of their albums have gone certified platinum.
Dream
Major Hit: "He Loves U Not"
Fun Fact: This girl group's original name was First Warning, which was thankfully changed to Dream. In 2008, members Melissa Schuman and Diana Ortiz formed a new band, Lady Phoenix, and filmed a reality show about finding the other members. Unfortunately, the reality show was never picked up.
Wild Orchid
Major Hit: "Talk To Me"
Fun Fact: Stacey Ferguson — AKA "Fergie" — was a member of this band prior to joining The Black Eyed Peas.
