Taylor Swift, Please Attend The AMAs
2016 has been a rough year for Taylor Swift fans. Not only did we have to endure the heartbreak of her split from Calvin Harris and the drama that ensued, but then there was also #Hiddleswift. And worse than both of these things combined? The fact that she didn't put out a new album this year, even though there were, like, a million clues that pointed to the fact that she might. And unfortunately, no new music means she doesn't have anything to promote, so we've been seeing a lot less of Swift this year, especially when it comes to award shows. So will Swift be at the 2016 American Music Awards?
It doesn't seem likely, although she hasn't officially confirmed whether she's attending or not. (Bustle reached out to Swift's rep for comment, but has not heard back at this time.) So far, Swift hasn't been announced as a presenter or performer and didn't receive any nominations — probably because her last album, 1989, debuted two years ago. Instead of being all about the music recently, she's been keeping her life more low-key, hanging out with friends, and exercising her right to vote. It sounds like she doesn't have any reason to be at the event, so if you're keeping your fingers crossed for a Swift sighting, it's a good time to start keeping those expectations low. I know, I know. I'm bummed too.
But if you want to keep hope alive, there is one reason she could show up: One of her BFFs, Gigi Hadid, is co-hosting the show with Jay Pharoah. Since Swift is known for going to fashion shows to cheer Hadid on, it wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world if she appeared in the AMA audience to root for her friend. It's unlikely, but anything could happen!
The bright side? If my favorite cat lover releases a new album in 2017 like I'm hoping she will, this could be the very end of Swift-less award shows for those of us who miss her. And the AMAs will do just fine without her. After all, the lineup of performers and presenters is pretty awesome, and in case you haven't heard, Halsey and The Chainsmokers will be performing literally everyone's favorite song "Closer." What more could you ask for?
Swift, come back to us soon. I don't know how I've survived this long without her killer award show performances in my life!
