It's that time of year! For anyone who went to musical theater camp growing up — this gal right here — the Tony Awards are like your wedding day, Christmas, and the Oscars rolled into one night. There are performances, huge stars of stage and screen, and this year, Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming, who are hosting the Tony Awards. And if those two names don't get your musical theater libido excited, then you need to be Miss SaiGON. Chenoweth and Cumming, both acclaimed stage and screen actors, are going to make the perfect team as hosts of the Tony Awards.
Chenoweth is actually nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for On the Twentieth Century this Tony season. Cumming is coming off of a long stint as the Emcee in Cabaret, in which I saw twice in four months (he was that amazing). These two are like the cream of the crop for hosting the Tony Awards, and you can bet your bottom dollar (Annie reference) that they're going to be some of the best hosts the Tony stage has ever seen. (No disrespect to Neil Patrick Harris, because he is, obviously, incredible.)
Here are seven reasons why Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth make the perfect Tony Awards team.
1. They're Both Tony Winners
Who better to partner up with than someone who understands your eliteness?
2. They're Opening Monologue/Song Will Probably Make You Cry
Not because it's sad, but because they're both amazing performers. Duh.
3. They're Both Natural Comedians
Cumming and Chenoweth are both naturally hilarious, so there's no doubt that they'll keep everyone entertained during the live broadcast of the show.
4. Because Kristin Chenoweth Can Do This...
Yeah, she's able to produce a sound like that.
5. And Alan Cumming Can Do This
I know The Little Mermaid was just on Broadway, but maybe when the revival happens Cumming can play Ariel? Just a thought.
6. They'll Both Know How To Party After The Tony Awards
Chenoweth can bring the champagne, Cumming can host the after party in his Instagram-famous "Club Cumming."
