'The Royals' Season 2 Has Some Explaining To Do

by Kelly Schremph

When I first heard about E! Network's scripted series The Royals , I have to admit that I was somewhat skeptical. Sure, the concept itself sounding alluring, but would the characters and dialogue be compelling enough to motivate me to return each and every week? Well, as it turns out, it was. You see, this royal monarchy is a lot like Gretchen Weiners' hair in that it's full of secrets. And as far as family drama goes, their weekly antics make our Thanksgiving dinners look like child's play. Is it a fair representation of what the actual British family is like? Probably not. But that's not going to deter me from counting the days until The Royals Season 2 makes its grand debut. However, there's still quite a bit to think about in the meantime.

Like most things of life, nothing is able to get fully resolved and neatly wrapped up in a nice little bow. And The Royals Season 1 finale was certainly no exception. As a way to help gear up for next season, this series made sure to leave plenty of questions unanswered, thus making many dedicated fans (much like myself) more than eager to get to the bottom of things. So as we impatiently wait for the summer to (hopefully) fly by, I've rounded up a few very important questions that need answering ASAP upon The Royals' return.

1. What Are The Real Paternity Test Results?

As we learned right from Dr. Cohen himself, Liam and Eleanor's blood weren't actually tested, so we have no idea what the results really are. For all we know, King Simon could very well still be their father, which would make Prince Liam the next true heir to the crown after all. So someone get those bloody test results already!

2. Who Killed King Simon?

Right now Cyrus looks like the best possible suspect, which leads me to think that it's definitely not him at all. This show loves to throw curveballs at its viewers, so having it be someone you'd least expect would be a perfect way to drive up the shock value. Hey, maybe Ophelia did it. Who knows at this point? But until I get some answers I refuse to rule anyone out.

3. Who Or What Is Domino?

I don't even know where to start with this one. Is it a person? Is it an organization? Is it a British pizza chain? I literally know nothing about the meaning behind this symbol, but I'm definitely intrigued as to what it could all lead to. Answers, please! I need answers.

4. Who Hired Robert's Assailant?

We know that the mystery man that Eleanor and Jasper met is Brandon Boone, aka the guy who actually killed Robert. However, we still have no idea who it was that hired him to do it. Was it Queen Helena? Was it Cyrus? Was it the same person that was behind King Simon's death? This murderer needs to show him (or her)self and soon.

5. Are Liam & Ophelia Dunzo?

Last we saw, Ophelia was in NYC, auditioning for that dance company, which as it turns out, Gemma's family helps to sponsor. (Uh oh!) So now that she and Liam have gone their separate ways, are they really over with for good? Probably not, but it's bound to get even more complicated due to a.) long distance and b.) the recent reveal that Marcus is in love with Ophelia as well. Could we be looking at next season's big love triangle?

6. Will Helena Learn That Alistair Is Dead?

I know she intends on keeping a safe distance away from her secret lover, but surely she's bound to find out what happened to him, right? And if she discovers that Cyrus — her supposed comrade in arms — was behind it, there's no telling what new scheme she'll concoct to get her revenge. And I, for one, can't wait to see it all unfold. Unless, of course, Alistair's not really dead and something bigger is going on here. We didn't actually see him get killed, so I suppose anything is possible.

7. Who Is Lucius Most Loyal To?

If he did, in fact, have Alistair killed via Cyrus' orders, then it appears we have our answer right there. But if he only made it look like Helena's lover was killed, then maybe he and the Queen are secretly in cahoots against Cyrus. Like I said, it's become almost impossible to know who to trust these days. Double, double crosses don't seem out of the realm of possibility.

8. What's Prudence's Endgame?

We know she's now pregnant with Cyrus' son, so is she hoping her baby will become the next heir to the throne? Does this mean she played a significant role in all the scheming it took to get Cyrus to this royal post? As of now, it all remains unclear, though I have a sneaking suspicion that this sweet looking girl is not as innocent as she seems.

9. Are Eleanor & Jasper OTP?

Jasper's feelings for Eleanor certainly seem genuine, but I'm still hesitant to completely trust his motivations. Tell me I can and should root for these two, Royals writers. I need for this 'ship not to sink!
