This Cat Is The Best Nurse Ever

by Lucia Peters

And today in Stories That Will Absolutely Melt Your Icy Cold Heart, we have this: Rademenes the cat helps nurse other animals back to health at the Polish veterinary clinic that saved his life. I'm not kidding. The little black cat came to the clinic so sick it didn't look like he would survive — but not only did he bounce back completely, he's now paying it forward, too. There are pictures, of course, and I guarantee they will make you cry giant tears of happiness.

Rademenes the nurse cat first popped onto the Internet's radar at the end of March courtesy of Polish news outlet TVN24. Since then, he's gone viral — and with good reason. The only thing the Internet loves more than cats is heroic animals, and Rademenes is both all wrapped up in one fuzzy little package. According to TVN24, the cat arrived at the Bydgoszcz animal hospital at the end of September with dim prospects, indeed: He was suffering from an upper respiratory infection so bad that both the people who brought him in and the veterinary staff thought he would never recover. Veterinarian Lucyna Kuziel-Zawalich, however, took a liking to him — and miraculously, the little black cat made it through. He took up residence in the clinic after his recovery, even going so far as to become a full-time nurse himself.

OK, so no, he's not an official nurse — he's a cat, after all, so obviously he's never been through any nursing training and he's not on the payroll. He does, however, make a point of keeping the other sick and recovering animals company: He hangs out with them after surgery, he snuggles with them when they need it, and sometimes he even licks their ears as a sign of affection. Interestingly, the frequency at which cats purr can help improve bone density and promote healing — so I wonder if Rademenes isn't also doing his best to speed along the healing process for his animal buddies, in addition to providing them with some much-needed comfort.

Head on over here to see a video of Rademenes, because it's Thursday and you deserve it. And so does Rademenes, for that matter. Who says black cats are bad luck? Not this little guy!
