Start the New Year with These Netflix Favorites

by Kelly Schremph

How will you be doing on New Year's Day? Sufficiently hungover, I assume, as is the often the sign of any great New Year’s Eve celebration. But fear not my fellow partygoers, for the beginning of 2015 doesn’t have to be strictly full of headaches and heartburn. In fact, thanks to the powers of Netflix it can turn out to be a great start to a (hopefully) even greater year. Because, let’s face it, nothing cures a hangover better than a lazy day of snuggling in front of the TV. The only problem is, sometimes you're just not in the mood to watch whatever is playing, especially in such a precarious state. But don't worry, there's plenty to watch on Netflix on New Year’s Day.

I mean, come on — you don’t want to waste precious moments of your relaxation time constantly flipping through your streaming options, unable to decide what exactly you’re in the mood for. That’s where I come in. After a great deal of consideration, I’ve narrowed down some of the very best Netflix selections that are perfect for any mood and guaranteed to help you kick off the new year with a bang. Bring it on 2015!

For the Binge-Watcher: Friends

That’s right, folks. Your six favorite friends are finally on Netflix, which means you can stream all 10 seasons whenever your heart desires. And in my opinion, no time is better than the present, especially when this lot is involved. So cuddle up with an order of the Joey Special (aka two pizzas) and let the binge craze commence.

For the Romantic: An Affair to Remember

In keeping with the whole New Year’s theme, the hardcore romantic in you has to admit that when it comes to New Year’s kisses, nothing beats the one between Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant) and Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr). Sure, they were both engaged to other people at the time, but it certainly isn’t the first time something so wrong feels oh-so right. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an important date with the Empire State Building.

For the Music Enthusiast: Annie

There’s nothing like a good song and dance to help pick you up from that hangover funk, and little orphan Annie is just the girl to deliver such a performance. So no matter how awful you’re feeling today, just know that the sun is bound to come out tomorrow. (Sorry, I just had to.)

For the Adam Sandler Buff: Click

This may not be a movie specifically about New Year’s, but it does help to teach the very important lesson about how we should all learn to appreciate every minute of every year (both new and old), because life is a gift that cannot and should not be rushed by the click of a button. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll never look at another Bed, Bath & Beyond the same way ever again.

For the Nostalgic: White Christmas

Sometimes Christmas comes and goes far too quickly. So for those who refuse to end their holiday cheer in the New Year, feel free to indulge in this timeless Christmas classic that's guaranteed to help keep you merry and bright for weeks to come.

For the Non-Conformist: American Horror Story

Just because it’s New Year’s doesn’t mean you feel the need to conform to watching strictly holiday-themed flicks. In fact, you prefer to go against the grain and even enjoy a little horror with your holiday season. It’s sick. It’s twisted. And I have nothing but the utmost respect for you.

Here's looking at you, 2015!
