Guess What Designer Just Collaborated With Frozen
Two weeks ago Frozen celebrated its one-year anniversary, and my, oh my, what a domineering year it has had. It has climbed the ladder of becoming the fifth highest-grossing film in history. More than three million dresses inspired by the film's main character, Elsa, were sold this year, with 3.4 million kids dressing up as princesses for Halloween. It had its very own Disney on Ice show that opened in September. An Elsa-inspired wedding gown closed New York's Bridal Fashion Week. And, there's talks of a stage musical, a short film and a sequel to the Disney flick that's become embedded in our hearts and minds. Now, it has been re-imagined by Rei Kawakubo in the Commes des Garçons x Frozen collection.
While mostly kids have been seen donning items inspired by the film, this collaboration gives adults a chance to get in on the action. In classic Comme des Garçons fashion, the collection features a number of graphic t-shirts with the fashion house's iconic logo alongside repeated characters turned sideways and upside down on the sleeves and on backs of the shirts. Also included are tote bags with the easy-to-spot polka dots known to repeat themselves in many of Kawakubo's designs with scenes from the film inside of some of the dots. There are also pocket squares and button downs. If you weren't a fan of Frozen before, then this collaboration will surely convert you, making you realize why "do you want to build a snowman" is more important now than ever.
Of course, it goes without saying that this collaboration falls in line with many of the much-anticipated and fought-over collections from this year. From Alexander Wang x H&M to Lena Dunham x Nasty Gal, this has been the year for the infamous "x" that has connected designers and celebrities to some of the most shopped-at stores around town. With the end of the year drawing near, one can only imagine what other collaborations are bound to be released. For now, you can shop the Commes des Garçons x Frozen collection at Dover Street Market and Commes des Garçons stores.
