It's the news heard around the world: Benedict Cumberbatch will play Doctor Strange for Marvel in 2016, and I for one could not be more excited. Granted, it could be argued that the Sherlock star was already pretty much a superhero in the world's eyes. (Celebrity imitations, Sherlock erotica — the guy can do no wrong!) But given that I'll take any excuse to get Benedict Cumberbatch up on the silver screen, this latest gig of his is a definite cause for celebration. (Here's to a very tight, form-fitting uniform. I'll drink to that.)
However, there's no doubt it's going to be a little weird seeing this lovable Brit make the shift from a super sleuth to a superhero — thought I guess, in many ways, Sherlock was no stranger to saving lives as well. It just may not have been as high on the top of his priority list as it'll have to be now. That being said, there are actually many ways his role in Sherlock should be able to help him transform into Marvel's Doctor Strange. Because let's face it, if there's one thing Sherlock Holmes has perfected, it's how to be strange.
Act Confident in the Face of Your Enemies
You may feel intimated and have no idea what you're going to do next, but as long as you act confident (even slightly cocky), your enemies will be none the wiser. At the very least, it will buy you a little time to think of a Plan B.
A Life of Solitude Is Key
As is the case with many heroes, Sherlock knows how important secluding yourself from others is, especially when you have powerful foes looking for any sign of weakness to take you down. Is it a lonely path? Yes. But it's a necessary one many superheroes have been forced to take.
Adjust To Your Surroundings
Sherlock was never a natural flirt, but when the situation called for a change in his regular persona, he was always willing to do whatever it takes in order to solve a case and catch the bad guy. (But mostly just to solve the case. Bless him.)
Be Agile
You never know when you'll have to chase a villain down. Maybe even start carrying a pair of sneakers in your bag. Just in case.
Use the Element of Surprise
Because sometimes a good headbutt can go a long way.
Take Up a Hobby
You know what they say about all work and no play…
Wear Your Uniform With Pride
Denying it is denying a big part of who you are. Embrace the fandom, my friend.
