At The 2014 CMAs, Kacey Musgraves' Huge Hair, Carrie Underwood's Baby Bump, Ariana Grande, and More Made For A Seriously "Big" Night
The 2014 CMAs (Country Music Association Awards) were quite eventful Wednesday night (November 5). The 2014 CMAs red carpet fashions offered several "wow" moments. But what all the stars wore isn't the extent of the CMAs talk, with preggers Carrie Underwood (always a red carpet winner) revealing she's having a boy, Perry pal Kacey Musgraves rocking bigger hair than '80s glam rock bands and singlehandedly bringing Aqua Net hairspray back to our minds, and much more.
Everything is bigger in the country music scene, from the record sales to the aforementioned hair to the notable absences from this year's event. Nope, Taylor Swift was not there, and she did mention that she would not be attending country music events on the 1989 cycle, so she was true to her word. Still, we missed her, if only because we didn't get to see her play dress up.
Pop stars Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor also crashed the country music party and did a little genre cross-promotion by appearing and performing with country acts.
Here are the 12 most memorable looks of one of country music's biggest nights.
Miranda-Lyn Monroe
Singer Miranda Lambert pocketed several awards but she channeled Marilyn Monroe on the red carpet with her bombshell red lips and her classic waves, all of which were accented by her clingy pink gown. Va-va-va-voom.
Miranda Lambert Gets Sleek In White After Labor Day
Screw outmoded fashion rules, like not wearing white post-Labor Day. Lambert changed into a crisp white skirt and blew out her sleek bob. It’s one of her best looks… ever. This and her red carpet look were totally opposite ends of the spectrum, but she owned both.
Carrie-On-The-Carpet
Underwood co-hosted the show, which meant lots of costume changes, each of which accentuated her baby bump. Her frilly, gilded red carpet ensemble, with its asymmetrical hem, moved and flowed perfectly.
Kacey Musgraves' Bigger-Than-Life Hair
Singer Kacey Musgraves had larger-than-life hair. Her coif paid homage to Dolly Parton and Priscilla Presley with its massive, blown back volume at the crown. It was larger than a float at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. Sorry, Ariana. There’s a new hair queen in town.
Meghan Trainor Ditches Pastels
Megan Trainor ditched her beloved pastels and was oh-so-stylish in a lacy, purple-y, and bluish mini ML Monique Lhuillier dress with a cinched waist and to-the-elbow sleeves. She isn’t only about dat bass; she is also about dat style. Not gonna lie — this was my fave look of the evening.
Ariana Grande Lights Up The Night... Literally
Grande crashed country music’s party and performed in an iridescent, light up stage costume made the singer look like an electric elf in Santa’s workshop, but it was totally her familiar girly silhouette.
Wrapped In Red
Underwood also wore a Greek goddess-style, draped red gown that also skimmed her baby bump. She was full of fashion wins as co-host.
Babydoll Love
Underwood’s cream-colored babydoll dress with a belted, empire waist and frilly hem was another killer fashion moment for her.
Lambert's LBD
Lambert also donned an LBD. Her slip dress with the lacy bottom showed off her recent slim down and still accentuated her curves. She and Underwood really were neck-and-neck for the evening’s best dressed honors, and for most costume changes!
Kacey Musgraves' Hair Shrank In Favor Of Silver Sparkle
Later in the evening, Musgraves parted ways with her massive bouffant, which we’re already missing, for a more manageable height and a silver, sparkly mini that was dangerously short.
Lucy Hale, Lady In Red
Lucy Hale, who recently got a lob, made Taylor Swift’s absence a little more tolerable with her scarlet column gown with a belted waist and scarlet lips.
And From The Back
Hale’s dress didn’t show much in the front, but it sure did in the back. Just darling, isn’t it? The Pretty Little Liars gets a gold star on her fashion resume, thanks to this look.
