Mark Ballas Talks Meryl & Maks Dating Rumors
It's the question that's been on every Dancing with the Stars viewer's mind all season long: Are they or aren't they? The red hot dancing pair that is Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy appeared to be as in love on the dance floor as they are easy on their feet. From wooing audiences with a sultry samba to lingering kiss on Meryl's cheek, all the evidence was there. Chmerkovskiy even told US Weekly, "I love her. I love her!” But love, like a lingering hug after the perfect dance number, can be interpreted in many ways.
Bustle recently spoke to Chmerkovskiy's dancing colleague Mark Ballas about his chart-topping single "Get My Name" (look out for details on the video and more Wednesday) and squeezed in a few questions about the couple in question. So, are they or aren't they?
"I think they had a good relationship. All of us develop great relationships, Candace and I had a great relationship. We had great chemistry, we got along great, we laughed a lot. No one said 'Oh are you guys like...' because she's happily married," Ballas said of his relationship with dancing partner Candace Cameron Bure of Full House fame.
So does that mean it was all for show? According to Ballas, probably. "I don't think — in my opinion — there's anything going on there other than just a good friendship and they just had great chemistry on the dance floor," he said. "If you're not able to make the viewer or the audience feel like you're dating or hooking up or wanting to go out, you're not doing your job right. Dancing is about acting, you have to tell a story."
To further prove his point, Ballas likens the relationship of dance partners to that of dramatic actors: "When you go see a movie your leading man and lady, they both could be happily married, but they [appear] to be wildly in love or passionately angry at eachother and that's the same thing with dancing. I think Maks and Meryl were just really really good at that."
Well, there you have it folks, from an inside source. Maks and Meryl likely weren't anything more than killer dance partners, but that won't stop fans from dreaming (and writing some pretty steam facnfic about the pair).
