Everything That Looks Like Lupita's Gown
I'm not the first — and I certainly won't be the last — to say that newcomer Lupita Nyong'o is one of the best things to happen to Hollywood and red-carpet fashion in a long time. After capturing all of our hearts with her beautiful face, undeniable poise, and polished ensembles on the 12 Years a Slave promo tour and coming at us full force with her gorgeously red Ralph Lauren caped gown at the Golden Globes, the actress continued to have style hit after style hit throughout the months-long awards season, culminating with her flawless Prada princess gown at the 2014 Oscars.
But, as always, it had to go wrong at some point. And after all these months of falling in love with the Oscar-winning actress, the newly crowned "Most Beautiful Person" has finally done something that has many fans and fashion critics, if not necessarily disapproving of, then definitely questioning her latest red carpet look. Showing up to her very first Met Gala wearing a beaded-overlay Prada gown — complete with feathers, a chocolate brown underlay, and an embellished headband — Nyong'o looked a far cry from the minimalist, tailored, and always-glamorous style she's mastered throughout her breakout red carpet run.
Love it or hate it, there's one thing I think we can all agree on when it comes to this gown: It comes completely out of left field. And because this look is just so downright confusing, you'll have to excuse me if I get it mixed up with one of the following:
1. A '20s-era flapper costume
2. An algae-filled fisherman's net
3. Tron
4. A tennis net
5. An Excel spreadsheet
6. An admittedly pretty peacock
7. A matrix
8. Dangling door beads
9. A badminton shuttlecock
10. A dreamcatcher
11. A synthetic Christmas tree
12. A tackle box
13. Kate Middleton the night Prince William fell in love
