Your First Real-Life Look at Zooey's Hilfiger Line
A good celebrity clothing line (good being the key word here) is a great thing. When it comes to pieces created by some Hollywood's top stars, the more the merrier (Kate Moss for Topshop, anyone?). That’s why I was beyond excited a few months ago when the news broke that Zooey Deschanel would be teaming up with Tommy Hilfiger to design a capsule collection for Macy’s this spring. After all, what’s not to love about the idea of Deschanel’s retro-chic style and penchant for classic shapes, cutesy prints, and old-school fashion translating into an accessible, real-life collection?
Despite the smattering of design sketches released with the big news, I've been anxiously awaiting a glance at Deschanel’s “To Tommy, From Zooey” collaboration in living color before it hits Macy’s stores early next week. Thursday night, the New Girl star and her fashionable friends gathered for a party in West Hollywood to celebrate the new collection. And lucky for us, a few of these famous faces donned pieces from the upcoming mod-meets-nautical collaboration.
Naturally, the star of the show sported one of her co-designed dresses, choosing a fitted, collared mini dress as her debut look. Featuring a wrap skirt; red, patterned bodice; and cute front pocket, the dress fit Deschanel’s mod sense of style to a tee. Though I could have done without the black tights — which the actress tends to don more often than not on the red carpet — her adorable cream, navy, and red mini bag and navy heels more than made up for it.
Deschanel’s New Girl co-star Hannah Simone showed up to support Deschanel’s dip into design wearing a charmingly chic, sleeveless shift dress in Hilfiger’s signature colors and nautical design. Pairing the look with sleek locks, nude lips, and cap-toe pumps, Simone looked ready to take on summer in style.
Once Upon a Time actress Jennifer Morrison took things to another level when she walked the red carpet in a stunning, all-white ensemble featuring a flowing skirt and casually draped (and plunging) blouse. Complementing the gorgeous outfit with gold accessories, a red lip, and a fabulously bed-head bob, Morrison found a spring-ready style she’d be wise to stick with.
Zoey Deutch brought a little more color to the party, choosing a structured, color blocked ensemble featuring a collared polo shirt and curve-hugging mini skirt. Rocking spring booties — a style she also sported this week at Marie Claire’s Fresh Faces Party — sleek strands, and a smoky eye, the actress had no problem channeling the preppy style Hilfiger is famous for.
Trophy Wife actress Malin Akerman also hit the red carpet in spring style, opting for a navy and floral-print, fit-and-flare frock with contrasting satin sleeves. The blonde beauty styled her look with a wavy, choppy bob; navy clutch; and matching ankle-strap pumps for a look that read easy, feminine style.
Okay, so it may have been a little naive to think a glimpse at Deschanel's collection for Tommy Hilfiger would completely satisfy a desire for the entire line, but at least we have a few great looks to tide us over until the designs hit stores April 14.
