Blanchett's Oscar Look Cost How Much?!
And the Oscar for most expensive outfit goes to... Cate Blanchett! Australian Vogue rounded up the priciest Oscar ensembles from this year's ceremony, and the Best Actress winner topped the list.
Blanchett's gown was Armani Prive, worth $100,000, while her Chopard jewelry (earrings with 62 opals, a bracelet, and a ring) came to about $18 million. Yes, you read that correctly. Eighteen million dollars. For the jewelry, only. Most award show looks are borrowed, so it's not exactly like Blanchett went into her Louis Vuitton wallet and charged $18 mil and then some to a credit card. But still. I mean, my last big splurge was on a pack of stackable rings from H&M that cost five dollars, so you can understand my alarm.
Charlize Theron came in second, which is kind of baffling because she wasn't even nominated, but she's Charlize Theron and can do whatever she wants. Her stunning black Dior dress was worth $90,000, and her Harry Winston necklace was worth another $15 million. The necklace, also Harry Winston, was a bargain at just $800,000. The top five also included Sandra Bullock, whose Alexander McQueen dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry together were worth $8.24 million, newly-brunette Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent with Forevermark jewelry for $8.012 million, and Jennifer Garner, whose fringed Oscar de la Renta dress and Forevermark jewelry came to $5.025 million.
These figures are insane, but let's be serious here — Hollywood is not real life. The Oscars are a fantasy. Celebrities who hit the red carpet on the regular do not have to worry about making rent and still having enough money left over to avoid living off microwaved ramen for the rest of the month. They can borrow expensive clothes, buy expensive clothes, and still donate millions to charity if they so choose (and we really hope they do, after seeing those numbers).
