Jolie Is So Raven In 'Maleficent' Teaser

"All the other fairies fly. Why don't you?" Aurora (Elle Fanning) asks Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) in the opening of the newest teaser for Disney's upcoming Maleficent . But what Aurora doesn't seem to know the answer, that's when Maleficent responds with a nostalgic and maybe even wistful "I had wings once. They were strong." The woman's not fooling around. Those things were epic. Like, archangel of destruction epic.

I remember reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and having a moment in the first act wherein I was forced to scream "WTF?! IS VOLDEMORT FLYING??" And yes, Voldemort was flying, and though I guess it made sense in canon, it felt weird. Angelina Jolie, perhaps with all her Angelina Jolieness — and with the help of some nice CGI wings — doesn't make it seem quite as much like the WTF moment this could have easily devolved into. In fact, she makes it seem regal, and simultaneously terrifying.

In other words, I'd say Disney accomplished its goal with this one. Because I can guarantee you: I would shit my pants if I ever came across that in a back alley. But I would also be calling her Khaleesi and inquiring about when the next minion meeting was. So there's that.
